What makes this look even worse coming from the Dodgers is they still haven't won anything with all their analytics bullshyt. That COVID World Series has a massive asterisk.

:mjlol:

"They haven't won anything except that one World Series the year before last."

Dodgers are literally the most successful team of the last 5 years. They've made the World Series in 3 of the last 5 seasons (winning one and reaching Game 7 in another), and made the NLCS and NLDS the other two years.

The only other team to make it to the World Series multiple times in the last 5 years is the Astros and they had to cheat to do it. :russ:

Injury prone older lefty pitcher. Seems pretty similar to me.

The only difference is that Johan happened in June and he had a full spring training so you could let him go further. Kershaw had a limited spring and it's his first start.
Johan threw 134 pitches; Kershaw was at 80.

Johan walked five and K'd eight. Kershaw walked none and K'd 13.

Completely different.

First start of the season
Was shut down last year for an elbow injury
Almost had to have Tommy John in the offseason
Weather was near freezing

The man himself said he was on a pitch count and wanted to be pulled.

He obviously doesn't care about throwing the perfect game, his goal is to win another championship and get through a long season. You seem to be more bothered by this than him
One. Kershaw didn’t call the manager to the mound begging to be taken out. He didn’t argue being pulled and said all the right things. Two. You never pull a guy 7 innings into a perfect game! Call me crazy :hubie:

i can't say the Dodgers World Series "doesn't count" but they've certainly underachieved at times and the heavy reliance on all things lytics has been a problem..
Best thing about that one chip they won is the team they beat was probably the one team in the league that leans into analytics heavier than them.

Situations are extremely different. If Kershaw was at 100 pitches, I'd get it.

I'm not saying it's cut and dry to leave him in, I understand Roberts decision, but as a fan, it's annoying and it's part of the reason why some of the fun aspects of baseball are slowly being phased out. And I love baseball, I'm heavy into the analytics. I'm on fangraphs reading articles, listening to Effectively Wild podcast, on baseball savant every single day. One thing I noticed about the "super smart" baseball fans is they don't have a feel for what the average fan enjoys. They're too tunnel visioned on "what's the correct move" over what the general public wants to see, because most times they're anti-social nerds, which is why there's usually such a disconnect between the Saber heads and the regular fans who watch just to be entertained. Sound decisions are often times not the most entertaining ones, so they can't wrap their heads around the fact people are mad about someone being taken out of a perfect game on 80 pitches. They see it as "It was the most logical/safest route" and to them, that's all matters.

So let's say he get to 95 thru 8.....how much harder is it to take him out now?

Depending on circumstance, it could be easier. I think more people would understand if they took him out in the 9th if his pitching count is getting in the "high terrority" or he's throwing high level stress pitches. My overall point is that baseball has gotten so "smart" people can't even comprehend why baseball fans would be upset by this. That's when there's disconnect. Baseball, like all sports, needs a balance between being "smart and entertaining", because this is an entertainment business first and foremost over anything else. Not even allowing him to attempt to get through it is going to piss people off, because that's a potential historic moment that everyone who loves the sport would have loved to see.

Not saying let him get the perfect game no matter what. There's an obligation to do right by your players, to try to win and to entertain the public. It seems like the last part is what people in baseball care the least about now.
