I'm telling you, they're hiring the guys that run what they want to have happen. If X then Y. That's how baseball is now from the tactical standpoint. Managers are still important for motivational purposes over the 162 game schedule but the in-game stuff is all from up top.
Lol@motivational purposes. So Managers no longer have the final call on pitching changes or pinch hitters? :skip:

The "analytics" boogeyman has done far worse things to the game than convince someone to pull a pitcher after 7 perfect innings. I get it...but given Kershaw's history and the team's sole season goal, letting him go to 105 pitches in April isn't a smart decision.
Stop it. Let him have another moment of glory. An extra 25-30 pitches in one April start isn't gonna make or break his season.

Please tell me the Tigers finally got one. :mjcry:

Haven't had a home grown offensive star in the last 35 years besides a few seasons of Tony Clark and one Curtis Granderson year. :mjcry:

If it leads to injury, it could. He has recently proven to be injury prone, is just coming off an arm injury, and it's near freezing in Minnesota. I don't even think this qualifies as a decision you can blame on analytics. It's about his health, period. If he had a cap of 80 pitches, like all pitchers do at some point when rehabbing or getting stretched out or starting their spring training, them it would be foolish to ignore that to chase a perfect game. Impossible to say one way or the other whether it would put him at greater risk.

This is the correct answer.

Way too many baseball casuals on this forum. Dodgers goal in to win the World Series. Kershaw is coming back from an elbow injury last season and he's pitching in freezing weather.

Kershaw is already a hall of famer, throwing a perfect game in the first week of the season isn't going to elevate him any further.

Dave Roberts :mjlol:

Sports just aren’t the same anymore, guys can be on a roll and dealing but get pulled because of a stat sheet…

Pitchers have had "pitch caps" when returning from injury, getting stretched out, etc for as long as I can remember. He wasn't pulled because of analytics

That’s bullshyt. Nothing casual about letting a pitcher go for a perfect game when he is dealing. That’s actually an old school line of thinking :mjtf:
