"Texas head coach
Charlie Strong said wide receiver signee
Gilbert Johnson will not be on the team in 2015.
"Gilbert Johnson will go elsewhere next season," Strong said.
This is the second time in two years Johnson signed with a Division I program and failed to enroll. Out of high school, Johnson originally signed with Georgia, but did not got to the school due to grade issues. He then went to Georgia Prep Academy last year, but failed to make the grades to enroll at Texas.
Johnson, ranked as the No. 2 junior college receiver in the 2015 class, was a member of Texas famed "Florida Five" in the last recruiting cycle. That group included
Tim Irvin,
Davante Davis,
Devonaire Clarington,
Cecil Cherry and Johnson. But with the Longhorns 30 days away from the season opener against Notre Dame, only Cherry and Davis are on campus. Irvin ended up signing with Auburn, Johnson won't enroll and Clarington is still awaiting clearance from the NCAA to enroll.
Johnson's Twitter account features "MHS19" and he will likely play at Mars Hill University in North Carolina in the fall."
