Bruh I wanted to post about this after the either the OU or Okie State game but I out it off. 1 of the guys on The Football Brainaics broke down that UT's defense is having the same issues they had with Manny Diaz, Vance Bedford, & Todd Orlando: "The defense is too complicated causing the players to think too much on the field instead of just playing".

:francis: Sark definitely should've just kept Chris Ash, when he couldn't get Will Muschamp or Barry Odom. Who else did Sark try to hire as DC before choosing PK?
The players wanted Ash to come back too.

Ash probably would have fielded a better defense, how much better is up for debate. Ash did get to coach a defense that included Ossai, Graham, Sterns and CB jr. I think 3 of the 4 are in the NFL. But whatever he made out of the spare parts would likely be a lot better than what PK has d.one But without Bo Davis I don't think we have the DL recruits we have either.

The most disappointing part of this season has been the defensive line. We knew the team was challenged at LB but the defensive line was said to be the strength of the defense going by fall camp reports. It’s not like there isn’t any talent either. Collins would be a beast if he wasn’t at Texas.

But you’re right about Bo. Glad he left the state to get defensive players.

PK's defense is designed for the DL to occupy the OL and funnel everything to the LBs and safeties. Our DL can't beat one on ones, our LBs can't diagnose running plays, and our safeties suck at everything.

Nahlin says there's talk UT might hire Gary Patterson as an analyst. But Nahlin is done with PK & wants Sark to hire him as DC:

Hire Gary Patterson

There is actually some talk that he’s in play as an analyst. That would be a waste, but better than nothing.

Hire him. Hire him if its Co-DC to handle the secondary. Hire him if it’s to handle the whole defense.

This is a soft program. I have no clue if GP’s ego would work with Sark. Or if Sark’s ego would allow for GP. But there needs to be discussion and soon.

I’m not kidding. This defense is embarrassingly soft, not individually, but by scheme.

Texas needs to make changes now. Sark needs to re-evaluate his S&C program. Three guys rolling off the field at the same time is one of the softest things I’ve ever seen.

They need a Muschamp and it isn’t going to be Muschamp.

Bring in GP and allow him to do the work that isn’t being done by the head coach and S&C coach. Or the DC.

Three guys falling off the field because gravity rolled them off. My god.

Texas better make changes.

Doubt GP would come here but there has to be a change on defense or fans will not show up next year and it will be a countdown till Sark's firing and then the recruits will stop answering his calls.

Its just odd that some one with the resume of PK would spectacular fail here. I think the issue at hand is a combination of things. We certainly don't have the players to run his scheme, and I don't know if we have the time to wait for him to get his guys in. Also have to wonder if there are issues with philosophy among the position coaches, the majority of them were hired for Muschamp, and lastly I think our players in general are just soft. Not sure it has anything to do with S&C most of them play with no aggression. But I think having a head coach type at DC would help Sark tremendously.
