247 claims it's been Herman. :yeshrug:

@satam55 what comments are they referring to?
Are you asking about Sam's comments?

:francis: Bruh this is the same exact mistake that got Vance Bedford/Strong into trouble back in 2016. We ran a different defense every game that season (until Strong finally demoted Bedford, took over as DC & simplified the defense) despite the fact we had too many young players on defense to be doing that.

I thought those series of tweets were self-explanatory enough. Anyways basically Sam (& even coach Herman) feel that because OU has a simplified defensive scheme, OU's defensive players don't have to think too much & can just go make plays. Meanwhile, Todd Orlando is running a more complex defensive scheme for Texas & the results speak for themselves.

Like I said in my previous post, this is the same mistake that Vance Bedford made in 2016. He eventually got demoted from DC, Coach Strong took over as DC, simplified the defense, & the defense was noticeably improved the rest of the season. IIRC the same thing happened in 2013 with Manny Diaz, After Diaz was fired, Greg Robinson took over as DC, simplified the defense, & the defense was noticeably improved the rest of the season.

That game would have been a blowout without Hurts turnovers in the redzone.

Outside of Lamb going off, they also had 9 sacks, they limited us to 2.8 ypc, none of our receivers caught a TD, none of our receivers cracked 100 yds, Duvernay was neutralized, they also had 7.3 ypc on offense. How could you not be impressed with their defense? I watched two of their games before yesterday, that was not a fluke performance. Their D has been swarming to the ball all season.

Despite all that we only lost by 7 :heh:. Boys in here acting like we got ran off the field. I guess the Mackism hasn't completely rubbed off of everybody yet, And if you are going to give credit to what their defense did to our offense then give credit to our defense for somewhat neutralizing theirs and forcing those 2 turnovers. You can't have it both ways, crediting their defense and then calling our defensive performance a fluke. And ask anybody on offense and they'll tell you OU knew our plays in the first half, the signals changed in the second half which is why we were able to score 24 points. If we do that in the first half we win that game. It didn't help that the OL played like trash, Shack got his ass handed to him and they acted like they never saw stunts before. But other than that the result didn't put me in a panic. Y'all can overreact, I expect to win the rematch in the Big 12 championship game. Jalen doesn't scare me. Green and Sterns(if he doesn't redshirt) will be back. The other young kids won't be so young anymore and we should be the hungrier team.

Also something to keep in mind regarding the defense, it has its issues, but people thought Florida had one of the better defenses in the nation and LSU put up 42 on them, we gave up 45. I do however agree we need an base identity on defense. But I think we'll be better if we can get back healthy.

@dtownreppin214 These were Sam's exact quotes:

That's basically a shot at Orlando.

Wanna make excuses for Herman and his coaching staff after this shyt show tonight? This is not acceptable and frankly firings needs to happen at least with positional and assistant coaches probably now. That includes letting go of Beck and Orlando.
