Congrats! what are you studying? a few of us on here are alums.I'll be applying sometime next month, don't want to seem arrogant but it should be a sure thing.
Can I get a welcome to the fanbase brehs?
- I think Major Applewhite, Todd Orlando, and Derek Warehime all have a chance to follow Herman to Texas. We expect his S&C coach, Yancy McKnight, to follow as well. These are the names I've been hearing since October. I don't think there are any legal roadblocks precluding Applewhite from returning.
- Jeff Traylor is a candidate to stay. Justin also has heard Tim Brewster might return. This works fine because Traylor can coach numerous positions.
- I think Joey McGuire would also look nice on the staff and would have interest. If Texas loses Traylor this is a no-brainer.
- Recruits we think will be targeted (and again, been hearing this names since October), are QB Bryson Smith, LB/DE Marqez Bimage, CB Terry Petry, and perhaps a couple of the OL.
- Herman's phone is going to blow the eff up the next couple of days with people angling for jobs and to be in his recruiting class. He'll need to cancel most of that out in the short term and familiarize himself with actual recruiting needs and formulate a plan of attack. That plan needs to include hitting all the elite talent and taking a good crack at them. Every single elite talent needs a call in a hurry. Herman knew the importance of getting to Austin as quick as possible. He'll now have TWO weekends before the dead period. The first weekend should be dedicated to the early enrollees.
- I'm texting with JK Dobbins currently and he says he's going to Ohio State. Long road to go here. Herman needs to sell him on his time at Ohio State and clearly state why Texas is a better option than OSU. What would that be? I have no friggin clue, make something up.
- Alabama's going to have a staff shake-up that could help Texas with Baron Browning. I'd bet he'll at least visit and meet with Herman. I'm saying there's a chance.
- I've always felt good about the Houston elites with Herman. That's DE K'Lavon Chaisson, DT Marvin Wilson, and OL Walker Little.
- Jeffrey Okudah is a Texas type kid. Clay Jennings did a horrible job with him but I believe Texas can close fast with the right hire and working the right relationships. Houston has some Clay Mack kids.
- Herman shouldn't bring Kyle Allen but there's talk out there he will. I have not heard it personally. Allen isn't good enough to upset the apple cart.
- The biggest hire Herman will make is DC. Anything other than Orlando or Aranda is a total unknown. I have no idea who he'd target beyond those two. He needs to be able to sell the style of play he had this season. That's an aggressive unit and people (like Baron Browning's dad) have noticed.
- Sell Marvin Wilson on being your Ed Oliver. Simple enough.
- Herman's arrival has the team excited. He'll have no shortage of supporters in the locker room. Damn, is this real? This is just starting to hit me.
My mind is swimming right now. I'll post more as it comes to me and as I hear it.
The dude from Footballscoop.com wasn't lying when he said that Tom Herman is gonna have full control of the program like Nick Saban does at Bama.Per Higs:
1. Team to meet with Herman at 7pm Sunday.
2. This morning Perrin told all the coaches the contracts would be honored and that they could be offered an opportunity to interview with Herman but Herman is not obligated to interview.
3. FSU source said Brewster possibly would come. Early stages.
4. Herman looking to replace everyone "in the building from recruiting, secretary, film etc...he could blow out the entire building....."

Sorry brehs was on the road coming back from Louisiana.
None of the coaches will be retained, not even Traylor
Applewhite isn't welcomed
Orlando likely takes over at UH
Brewster is in consideration to join the staff
Aranda and Herman were roommates, but LSU about to give him a raise. Apparently Orgeron wants to retain him.
99% of the players are on board.
Kyle Allen will attempt to follow Herman
We will lose a couple of recruits but not any that actually matter.
Expect us to gain a couple of new recruits as well.
cant see browning not going to ohio state now after that scene today.Could Texas still get Wilson and Browning?

This is the most reasonable and balanced response to this whole Chalie Strong situation.Improvement is not always on the surface. Especially when you are majority Sophs and Freshmen. During the game(Spencer Tillman was kinda lowkey lobbying for Charlie) showed all kinds of stats, where I was like damn, the team has improved. Especially once Strong took over the defense. That will quietly go unnoticed because of the bad playcalling. But think about it, no one is so badass they just run for 2000 yards by themselves. Especially after no one had even 1000 yards at UT since Jamal Charles. Even Foreman. They also showed a few coaches that were about the same or worse than Strong record-wise for 3 years, then had 9 or 10 years the 4th year and beyond. That's why I say if UT bigs who are hiring owe it to themselves to get a real consulting firm to measure this quantitatively(yes, there are firms that do this) instead of just looking at record. I was at UT at the end of Mackovich's run and I thought he was ready to blow up as well. He had accumulated some damn good, long NFL career talent. A lot of it was young and '97 had a lot of major injuries at key positions, so they went 4-7. I think boosters and fans were more embarrassed than anything, so they canned him. Mack came in and won 9 games and everyone saw him as some savior. No, that team was full of talent and ready to win. The funny thing is, Ricky Williams had a huge year his junior year too despite the record. Low and behold, the Oline was improving quietly. Guys who hadn't played were having to play that 4-7 year as freshmen and sophs. They were young. Instead, the narrative was Mackovich was abrasive with boosters and couldn't coach. That's bs. the '95 and '96 teams were getting better and getting to nice New Years day major bowl games(Fiesta and Sugar Bowl). The mentality at UT, though, is that wins is the only stat that means anything towards the future and that despite the 15 years of previous mediocrity at that point, all the progress on the down low mean nothing in the face of their embarrassment. So they got rid of Mackovich and went with Brown(second choice after Gary Barnett) Brown won off the backs of Mackovich's recruits for a couple of years and everyone was patting themselves on the back for something that was inevitable. This feels the same way. I just hope they thoroughly look at everyone out there, whether we think he's available or not if we are who we think we are.
I have no problem naming names who showed significant improvement, but I'm not going to sit here and cry for Strong. I didn't play for him so I don't have that bond with him(BTW, Could people please shut up about players being emotional about an adult figure that they love and feel like has helped them improve in life and on the field. Football is emotional as fukk and individuals are different. I'm sure there are players that are meh on this and some that will be glad they are gone. But others like Foreman probably feel like they owe him everything. Foreman was a low 3-star recruit overshadowed by his brother. Most thought he might contribute as a blocking back or on special teams. He probably feels like Strong gave him a shot and through their program he made the body gains that will help him become a millionaire. Might that happen with another coach? For some yes, but for some Strong might have been the right guy at the right time. Let those brothers be emotional. This is their life). UT made him wealthy and he'll either land a decent head coaching gig or maybe even an SEC coordinator job. But the narrative from UT fans that guys like Bonney, Hager, Nelson, Kris Boyd, Locke, Armanti Foreman, Collin Johnson, Duvernay's blocking(dude could already fly and catch, lol), hell Dorian Leonard out of nowhere. Hell, McMillan and Boyette from nothing to solid contributors. Shark was starting to come on before that stupid targeting penalty(Don't get me started on that Kansas game. That felt like the fix was in once it was close and we've played worse Kansas teams close with much better Texas teams, so that's not a crime). Not going to sensationalize either way. Just ranting. I hope this is a clean transition, but I'll have no problem clowning us if we suck for the next 4 years.
