Thoughts on the class, brehs?

I think its a really good class. Only caveat of course would have been a QB and better OL but can't complain to much after a 6-7 season. I think Charlie did one hell of a job.

Losing Soso at the last second to UCLA of all places stings, but at least we flipped Newsome and kept Burt to make up for not closing on Lodge. I mean at Christmas, we were hovering around the 20th-ranked class, so the way the staff closed this class deserves major kudos. Now let's see Shawn Watson make these promised changes to the offense and get us some momentum in the W column next season.

BTW, what was up with Gary Patterson's wife hinting on twitter that A&M was doing something shady recruiting Mack? If true, I want no part of that. Core values, baby. #LetsRide

EDIT: PS - The absolute fukkkkery if Kyler Murray plays baseball instead of going to AtM....

I don't think we lost Soso at the last minute. Charlie got in on him late, and then created one hell of a momentum swing getting Murray and Lodge to visit and then having Daylon and Soso to come in on an OV weekend. So that made it seem a lot closer than it should have been. I'm not sure Soso should have ever been considered a Texas lean at anytime in his recruitment.

A lot of smoke behind the Mack ordeal. People are hinting he(or the family) got paid.

Didn't lose Soso. Gained a lot on Soso. Soso cooled on UT when we fired Mack Brown, then he came in when Murray visited. People from outside just don't understand a lot of the hate UT gets and has gotten from a lot of in-state kids' handlers and inside circle. Its pretty much unfounded hate and always an image problem compared to even smaller schools(have witnessed this first hand multiple times). When a kid wants to go to UT, those whispers start. I think Strong didn't expect that, but he understood that the day he said the name of the school garners more notice and respect outside of the state sometimes. Perfect example with a lot of the influences around Soso.

Don't understand the suspicion on Shawn Watson. He ran a great offense at Nebraska with Taylor Martinez. No reason he doesn't move those concepts over. Not to mention Norvell and Wickline come from pistol offenses. Heard, Swoopes, Locksley and Merrick would be fine in those offenses.

Patterson's wife isn't the only one making accusations on the slide. One of the Inside Texas writers was hinting at it. I'm guessing it has to do with the patent on '#WRTS' owned by Mack's father being filed by an Aggie lawyer. I wonder how this would be allowed to make money off of if the merchandise even resembles school colors. Besides that, who knows. It was a strange flip. You had A&M BMDs saying they had him last week. No way I would send my son to a place where they were directly talking shyt to me.

I think TCU was the first to bust A&M out on this about Mack and yeah it is centered around the #WRTS thing. I like this class though. Wish Texas did better on oline though. But I think this was a solid win. Especially coming off a 6-7 season. Imagine what it would be like when he comes off an 11-2 season. Texas defense will be one of the best in the nation in a year or two.

BTW, it's time for Rick Barnes to go. He is about to take a team that many picked to be contenders to play for a national title to a team that may not even make the tourney.

I wasn't sure what to think about the oline class, but I finally got around to watching these dudes. Say what you will, but I think Wickline did an excellent job on the oline evaluations. Everyone of these kids is mean as hell. Looks like their lower ratings are due to them being on running teams so I'm guessing they haven't shown the pass blocking skills ESPN and rivals like to see. The four freshmen are beasts. Vahe, kid from Louisiana and Major are straight mauling dudes on every play. Like pancake city. Huge contrast to what kind of linemen Mack used to go after. I predict Warren will be in beast mode in a couple of years. Without so many injuries, I think the Oline will be fine. This past season was just caught with the best players getting injured or suspended with little depth behind. That has changed already. I like the rest of the class too. Locke was a steal. Hell, Holton Hill was a steal. Still trying to figure out how other corners were rated ahead of that dude.

And yes, Barnes needs to go. It looks like he's lost Holmes. How you lose players(mentally) every damn season?

i'm not sure if i'm misevaluating this kid, but Deshon Elliott plays a lot like some legendary 'cane safeties. i predict at least two ejections in homie's career in austin.

the lb's and db's in this class:wow:

The back 7 in this class is tremendous. I like Lampkins upside, hopefully Omenihu fills out and they correct his tackling because dude misses a bunch.

In regards to the OL I feel like @rantanamo I think these kids will play beyond what their starts indicate. Williams is already receiving rave reviews, Nickelson is a legit 6'8 and he can move. I think Vahe will be a monster.

so far vahe and majors are probably my favorite OL in this class from their film. i'll check out nickelson.

lampkings is going to be a problem but i wish we would have gotten at least 1 more DT. yea omenihu has the frame to add on some size and i trust pat moorer to put him on the proper regimen. all in all, coach strong did a great job for his 1st recruiting class and only winning 6 games.
