Four-star DE Graham commits to Texas

6_4697460.jpg

Taquon Graham has finally come to a decision.

The four-star defensive end originally planned to announce in May but pushed his timeline back to the summer. Graham then said he had no idea when he was going to pull the trigger.

Graham, however, ended the process and gave UT a verbal commitment on Monday.

“Texas has always been that childhood school,” Graham said. “I grew up watching Texas. Everything around here is all Texas. I felt comfortable there. I’ve liked them for a long time. It felt right.”

Texas was always the leader in Graham’s recruitment. Oklahoma and TCU made pushes, but UT maintained its position at the top thanks to his relationship with the coaching staff.

“I really like Coach Strong,” Graham said. “He keeps it real with you, and he’s a great coach. My mom really likes him too. I like Coach (Brick) Haley a lot. He’s a great coach. I just feel comfortable around them.”

Graham committed to Texas over offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, USC and a number of other major programs.

Graham’s commitment comes on the heels of Texas’ monumental win over Notre Dame on Sunday night. Graham was unable to attend the game, but he did enjoy watching the Longhorns pull off the upset on national television.

“The come up is real,” Graham said. “This will bring a lot of attention to the program everywhere.”

Graham was last on campus for Under The Lights in July. He hopes to return for a UT game in the near future.

At 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, Graham is ranked as the No. 12 weak-side defensive end in the country and No. 32 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports Composite.

Graham is Texas’ eighth commit in the 2017 class and second defensive lineman, joining Liberty-Eylau’s Lagaryonn Carson.

We gotta worry about Shackleford tho. I know he's a freshman but he can't snap for shyt. Could lose us a game

Ehh true freshman against that DL and I can give him a pass for that game. Snaps like those means he is rushing to get his hands up. Breh was having a tough time with those monsters inside that ND had. Probably won't be that big of an issue going forward because that was probably the best DL we'll face.

Just rewatched the game. What's even crazier rewatching it was we won that game with a vanilla version of the Baylor offense. So many more pieces that can be added and more weapons as well. Collin Johnson nor Devin Duvernay really got any playing time.

Not as worried about the defense as I was Sunday night. A few lapses, but we couldn't get pressure. That had more to do with ND OL than it did our DL which I think we'll get better as the year progresses. But they do need to get better getting to the QB without us having to send extra guys. We got beat a few times on the quick screen.

On to next week UTEP has a very good RB but that's about it. Should be an easy win but it'll be interesting to see how this team responds on a short week playing a team they know they should walk over.

I've been to almost two dozen games at DKR since I was a kid, that was the best atmosphere of any game I've attended. In high school, I got to come down for the OSU game in '06, that was the only one compared to this "big game" field. Perrin has done a good job reorganizing the stadium so the students are more involved and the band are back where they used to be in the northeast corner of the stadium. Walking into the stadium, I got to meet Earl Campbell while he was chilling in his car. The man has the best parking spot at DKR.

ND fans were a mix of northeast meatheads, catholic school preps, and families that look like they were casted for the movie Rudy. They're a knowledgeable group, a little entitled, but overall good people.

I said in here before the game I was more worried about the defense than the offense. Bedford is still suspect imo. The dline is the weakness of the team and still lacking elite talent. Hoping we can continue to rotate freshmen in that group.

Hughes is a guy who deserves to start somewhere on this oline. Perkins needs to toughen up. He gets nicked every quarter. Injuries are going to be a constant problem for Nickelson at his height - 6'9. Shack is going to be a great player in a couple of years. Love the Foreman twins - they personify that Texas swagger that's been missing around here lately. Warren is too big IMO. I was surprised he got so much PT. Texas could really use a change of pace back.

Damn I guess dikkson just needed a year to get acclimated. Breh was a game changer. Charlie HAS to improve his time mgmt on the sidelines. Not taking a timeout on that critical extra point was UNACCEPTABLE. No matter how much we love the man, none of us can defend that. Other than that, I was pleasantly surprised with the improvements in special teams. That boy Kris Boyd was looking to start fights on every punt/kick coverage.

Brehs notice how many of the critical errors were caused by Mack guys - Hughes missed the tackle on the big run, Haines was late on the 2nd TD, Shane's INT went through Warrick's hands.....:beli:

The night belonged to Swoopes. Man that kid has taken so much unnecessary heat. 3 coordinators, burned red shirt....this is not his fault. I was so happy for him. The stadium was cheering his name throughout the game. I thought Gilbert could have gone to him more. Speaking of Gilbert, can't wait to see this offense on full go. He obviously only used 20-25% of the playbook last night.

They did a lot of experimenting with different personnel groups. I expect that to continue the next two weeks before they settle on the real starters for big 12 season.

Perkins was nicked up coming into the game and despite being in pain continued to try and play through it. Sure it was annoying watching him come out as much as he did but they aren't going to hold him out if he says he can go. He is our second best OL. Not sure you can tell a guy trying to play through injury to toughen up.

I'm not sure who you mean by Hughes. Cameron isn't on the team anymore. Did you mean Hodges? I was pleasantly surprised by both him and Anderson also Rodriguez as well. They all filled in nicely.

Warren was way too tentative. He just needs to go downhill like Foreman does. We have a change of pace back, K. Johnson, they just didn't use him. Eventually the flares out to the RBs will be used. I assume once we face a team that will blitz from the edge.

Hughes missed that tackle but Wheeler also guessed wrong on which gap to fill and was out of position to make the play. 2nd TD wasn't on Haines. Hall and Davis didn't communicate and blew that coverage.

I'm glad we kept the 18 wheeler package but I think we went to it to much. It should continue to be a situational thing. Going to it in the 3rd Q helped stall the offense, along with too much Warren to save Foreman's legs for the 4th quarter. Short yardage plays and redzone opportunities is about the extent I want to see the 18 wheeler package going forward.

Saw these three studs on Sunday enjoying themselves. All 3 will be Longhorns, mark my words. Throw in Walker Little too.

Who is the dude with the white shirt in the middle? Obviously LB Baron Browning is the Black shirt & DT Marvin Wilson is in the Blue shirt.

Y'all think the D-line coach Brick Haley is gonna get any heat if the D-line continues to struggle to get pressure? LSU fans been saying he ain't any good.

We need Wilson and Browning for real. Put them with Little, Hines and Chaisson and I'm skraight. If nothing else, a Linebacker has to love how Bedford uses LBs. Dude in the middle is Jarrell Cherry from Carter. 2018 DE. The type of athlete we need.

- Agree on Warren. I can tell he doesn't trust his eyes yet. I know his dad is on him about too. He'll either get it or won't.
- Agree on change of pace back, but I think it will be Porter since Johnson can't seem to get healthy. Strong seems to love him. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get a lot of snaps Saturday. Wouldn't surprise me if by midseason he and Foreman are the two backs(assuming health) that carry the load.
- Don't know what to think about Haley. I didn't think Bo Davis was all that either, but then he went back to Bama and the linemen were beasting. Thanks to the folks at CBS and ESPN, I'm trying to think of the big LSU games I missed and where they under performed under Haley. I always thought their DL was close to Bama level and they always had beast DEs. Maybe they didn't have sack numbers, but he coached in the SEC. Who the hell were they supposed to be sacking? I just remember Manziel couldn't do shyt with LSU. Bama had a hard time with them. Maybe I'm just being to generous, but I think it will be hard to judge until the talent is playing.

- Having said that, just watching the last game and going back to Baylor and OU, I actually love what Bedford is trying to do. I think the problem is, we can't execute at that level mentally sometimes as well as not having the DL talent playing. We really had them perplexed at times as well as perplexing ourselves. There was never a moment I felt like we were strategically outmatched. I think you see a much tighter D by the end of the season.

I'd trade Brick haley for Bo Davis in a heartbeat.
