Four-star DE Graham commits to Texas
Taquon Graham has finally come to a decision.
The four-star defensive end originally planned to announce in May but pushed his timeline back to the summer. Graham then said he had no idea when he was going to pull the trigger.
Graham, however, ended the process and gave UT a verbal commitment on Monday.
“Texas has always been that childhood school,” Graham said. “I grew up watching Texas. Everything around here is all Texas. I felt comfortable there. I’ve liked them for a long time. It felt right.”
Texas was always the leader in Graham’s recruitment. Oklahoma and TCU made pushes, but UT maintained its position at the top thanks to his relationship with the coaching staff.
“I really like Coach Strong,” Graham said. “He keeps it real with you, and he’s a great coach. My mom really likes him too. I like Coach (Brick) Haley a lot. He’s a great coach. I just feel comfortable around them.”
Graham committed to Texas over offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, USC and a number of other major programs.
Graham’s commitment comes on the heels of Texas’ monumental win over Notre Dame on Sunday night. Graham was unable to attend the game, but he did enjoy watching the Longhorns pull off the upset on national television.
“The come up is real,” Graham said. “This will bring a lot of attention to the program everywhere.”
Graham was last on campus for Under The Lights in July. He hopes to return for a UT game in the near future.
At 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, Graham is ranked as the No. 12 weak-side defensive end in the country and No. 32 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports Composite.
Graham is Texas’ eighth commit in the 2017 class and second defensive lineman, joining Liberty-Eylau’s Lagaryonn Carson.
