just like Jesse Owens 10.3 at the 100 couldn't get him on the 2012 USA track team.......old school NBA nikkas couldn't make in the league today

athletes of today >>> athletes of the past

athletes of tomorrow >>> athletes of today

its just a FACT of life

Jesse owens in 2013 would be running at 9.6 for the 100m though. . . Give him modern day standards/training/nutrition etc . .

Maybe. But it doesn't change the fact that the best of today are better than the best of yesterday. Just look at all the sports where the objective measure of greatness is the clock versus current contemporaries. The 100m is a perfect example. The time that could win the gold in the 90s can't even get you on the USA track team today whenever the top 4 guys are running 9.9 and under. Even taking a freak like Usain Bolt outta the conversation, the 4 or 5 dudes after him were running faster than everyone else in history.

I just don't get why people think the same ain't true for team sports where the competition isn't the clock but rather other people. Just look at vids from nikkas in the 50-70s and you'll see how garbage even the best from that era were.

If the All-NBA team from the 60 or 70s was transported to todays NBA, they wouldn't even be able to beat the Charlotte Bobcats.

:wtf::wtf::beli::beli::beli::beli:

I swear a lot of you think that NBA Players today are some super human cyborgs.

If you watch a couple minutes of this video what makes these guys worst than bums on the Bobcats. You will see they are hitting tons of outside jumpers and yes Wilt is not as nimble in the post as say Bynum or Brook Lopez, but you make it seem like Marcin Gortat would be bullying him on the block or blocking every shot Wilt puts up.

And you guys need to quit associating athleticism with knowing how to play the game of basketball. I have seen this countless times in gyms where 5 un-athletic white boys who are 30-40+ in age destroy 18-25 year old athletic twitch muscle black kings. Yea the younger guys looked at them like :eat::eat: and they sure as hell moved faster and proved some challenge initially, but once the 5 un-athletic white boys figured them out and started to play "fundamental" basketball it was :heh::wow:

Despite the athleticism these guys could not stop them on the defense. The ball movement, the picks, it was just pure basketball.

to say the the 60's and 70's ALL-NBA team can't beat the Bobcats shows you how little you even know of basketball

Smh at people THinking evolution happens within 50years

:childplease: nikkas with no science background once again exposing themselves

evolution happens because there is GENETIC DIVERSITY within a population....a greater number of people in the population.......the greater the probability of genetic diversity

sure humans as a whole have NOT evolved in 50 years........but because of population increase there are MORE freak athletes around now than before.......and if the population continues to grow there will be more freak athletes in the future

the worlds population has more than doubled in the last 50 years from 2.5 billion to nearly 7 billion.......add to it the fact that globalization and the rise of living standards across the globe have increased interest in most sports in regions of the world where they weren't played before......then it shouldn't be surprising that today's athletes on the average are superior athletes to those of the past.......its the case for two reasons.......one there are just more people now which means a greater likelihood of great athletes........second there are more people with access to sports which also means the greater likelihood of great athletes

in the future there should be even more people..........and as the world becomes more globalized and interlocked there should be even more great athletes

:stopitslime: modern day technology ain't helping nikkas run a 9.6. why? cause only one nikka out of 7 billion has done that

I will refer you to my earlier post regarding the increase in human population and the increase in globalization of sport. In the 1940s, its highly likely that Jesse Owens was NOT the fasted man in the world. There could've been some nikka in Jamaica around the same time that had more natural ability that never competed. Similarly there could be some nikka today in Angola whose never even seen a track field that can run faster than Bolt.

The increase in participants in the greatest reason for the increase in athletic performance we have seen across the boards in sports.

how many of these unathletic white boys are in the league dominating Bron or Durant? :comeon:

You can't just use one anecdote and somehow extrapolate that out to some universal rule. I'm not denying that skills and fundamentals are important in basketball. However, that doesn't change the fact that you need some base level of athleticism to even compete. If athleticism had little correlation with basketball success then there would be more of these "unathletic" white boys in the NBA. Yet the NBA is almost 90% black. That should let you know how IMPORTANT athleticism is to the game of basketball. Superior athletic ability doesn't always correlate with being a superior basketball player BUT it does most of the time.

I'm not saying those 60-70s nikkas would get beat EVERY TIME by the Bobcats. I'm just saying that more times than not, the Bobcats would beat them.

they lack the natural talent of todays athletes

the athletes of yesteryear were probably not even the best athletes of their day because globalization hadn't taken off and most people around the world didn't play organized sports

if you increase the human population from 2.5 billion to 7 billion while also increasing the number of people who know about the game of basketball then it makes sense that you should get MORE good basketball players not than in the past

just think about it this way......if the human population exploded to 100 billion......then even if the rate of freak athletes existing the population stayed the same.......there would be alot more of them around.......hence making it more likely that they would be superior to todays athletes because there would be more chances for genetic diversity

I don't get why people are ignoring the numbers. 2.5 to 7 billion is a HUGE deal. That is more than doubling the number of possible humans that exist. Also remember that the percentage of people playing basketball as a part of the worlds population has also increased as a result of globalization.

so your answer is numbers?
i agree yet i don't agree cause just because there are more people doesn't mean there are better athletes but i do agree cause you have to play the number game and say yea theres some dude in africa, canada, even the u.s. that hasn't been discovered that will beat usain bolt that will make lebron look like mark madsen that makes the klitchsko(sp) brothers look like bob sapp that makes adrian peterson look average but that doesn't take away from the athletes of this time or anytime. so you saying jim brown with today's equipment, training, etc wouldn't be a beast? what about walter payton? ali? foreman? sugar ray robinson? michael johnson in track?

I think is lineup could give that 88 one a run for its money. Hell they may even beat them. Cuz who Magic gonna guard? And what is Bird or Barkley gonna do with KG and Duncan?

Both teams would get exploited on both ends. Duncan would destroy bird in the post but on the other end he'd make duncan chase him around the court the whole time. I'd still give the 88 team the edge since the 03 team has no PG and we know neither kobe or prime mcgrady would be trying to spread the ball around :skip:

But you are saying that today's players are leagues away from players in the 60's and 70's, which is not true. What is the gauge to measure their athleticism? Is it how quickly they run? I am pretty sure there are faster players from the 60/70s than on some rosters. Is it how far, high they can jump? You have Bob Beamon who in 1968 set the olympic and world record for the longest long jump ever. The world record was broken in 1991, but the Olympic record still stands 40+ years later. If today is so much athletic, wouldn't people annihilate a 40 year old record?

I stopped reading after someone said Oscar Robertson couldn't keep up with today's players. You guys overrate todays players. I mean yes the athleticism is better but even with all that the best players have high ball IQ, you got plenty of players in today's league who are average athletes but are impressive talents nonetheless. Dirk Nowitski was never an athletic marvel even in his prime but he's going to end up a top 50 maybe even top 25 player of all time. The gap between players in the 60's and 70's players even with the jump in training, supplements and nutrition is not that astronomical because typically the best players of all time are separated by IQ and skills not raw athleticism.

no, the fukking bobcats are not beating the 60-70 all nba teams. :mindblown: these guys had crucial mid range jumpers, and if you knew anything about basketball youd know a good jumper is going to win games. seriously the fukking bobcats?? :wtf:

IMO If he was matched up against ANYONE but Jordan I think kobe would be more then willing to assume the playmaker role lol.

I agree but Dirk Maybe top 25?:heh:

I don't think anyone is saying oscar would be a scrub but the massive advantage he had over other guards in athleticism and flat out talent in the 60's would be non existant today. Same thing with Wilt
