you making me feel old. But it depends on where the arcade was ours was in the hood right across from a crack house and only dope boys at the time used to be in there and it was always something popping off.

Not trap. I said crack house on some the carter shyt.

Co-sign this...In Detroit the Arcades might have been the first dope trap houses. I remember wayyyyyyy back in the days cats used to come into the arcade with the big ass radios and shyt. It was like a party spot and they would be mad territorial. Rival gangs better NOT be seen in the local arcade. I remember several spots getting shut down over shootings, stabbings, robberies etc...but them still were the days :myman:

shyt didn't get really bad until Street Fighter. Mad peeps got their feelings hurt by E. Honda............:myman:

If you got beat by someone playing Dhalsim, you couldn't show your face around our way for weeks.

It was still all good......until Mortal Kombat came through and crushed the buildings. Wasn't bad enough you got beat, but to end it with a Fatality usually meant someone was gonna get their ass beat for real.

That's real talk

I miss my younger days at the arcades. The arcade round my way was frequented by this one cat with dreads back when dreads were uncommon. He was a tourney level player in Tekken, he placed in NEC one year I think. Really forced me to step my game up. The best was when you had some shyt talker poppin off then you whip their ass and look over like :birdman: and they walk away like . Those were the days.

when street fighter 2 became predictable i became an arcade troll and never looked back. :heh:

i'd always turtle and then just throw muhfukkers over and over. my sagat made kids hate life. :takedat:

not arcade-related, but i used to bully my lil' brother in super smash bros. melee and he'd get so pissed he'd start biting the controller, throwing sh!t, pushing lamps over, etc. :russ:

good times. :jawalrus:

Some great memories from back then. Our bowling alley had a great arcade better than the mall. Never seen grown men get so upset over anything than when i used to whup ass in MK2. Id drop my whole weekly allowance in an hour or two :sadcam:

Final Fight, street fighter, mortal kombat, double dragon, pinball machines>>>>>anything today

it wasn't until SF2 (all editions) and Mortal Kombat 1 & 2 that it got real in arcades, before that it was all love.

after those dropped, it was all about skills and having to...

the worst were the asians who knew every combo and could seemingly murk you with the weakest character if they wanted. they would just play with you, then pull a fatality with ease just to :pacspit: on your virtual grave...

kids these days lost the social aspect of it and will never relate to the feeling you got in the arcades and putting ya quarter up...shyt is sad. that ain't even nostalgia, that's simply the truth.

I never ran in to any trouble at arcades, it was good fun and good competition. The only thing I had to be aware of was the Street Fighter cabinet, I would see it empty and approach it like :whoo: but as soon as I put the money in, some dude (usually Asian) would jump in like 'you want a game :smugdraper:' while a crowd forms behind like :dj2:, leaving me like :sadcam: (I was not that good)

Man by the time it was 1999/2000 the arcade by the mall was just full of gothic kids but it always had a mix of everyone and I don't recall any fights. I do remember at some point arcade gaming being ridiculous price wise where it was a dollar 25 to start playing time crisis and I remember the old days of turtles in time and xmen being a quarter to start. Once the dreamcast and ps2 you started getting arcade ports that were almost equal graphically and it killed the arcade and I'm certainly online gaming put the final nail in the coffin.

What made arcade gaming great was that you couldn't replicate the graphics and wheel gun experience at home

Man I miss the days of getting a high score in the morning before school and then coming back after school to check if your three letters were still at the top.

I almost threw hands with this white kid who kept doing M.Bison's Psycho Crusher all the gotdamned time... and won :birdman:

The worse scenes as a kid was Chuck E. Cheese (Showbiz for OG nikkas) or Little Caesar's Family Fun Pizzeria. You got all these kids there gassed up cuz it's they birthday, walkin around like all the shyt's theirs. My homie and I almost stomped some nikkas out for talking wreckless on Cruisin' USA :hmm:

breh, the Chuck E. Cheese on Michigan and Telegraph STAYED having fights up there over shyt like tickets and prizes....

Worst i ever seen was this place in a detroit suburb called "the Butterfly" that had ALL the A1 fighting game cabinets. I played this one cat in Capcom vs SNK2 Terry/Kyo/Ken team was giving him the beats....he then tried to throw hands cuz Kyo perfected him WITH a Dramatic KO :fire:

the scrap spilled over into the parking lot...most fun i ever had in a fight in my life.

I actually want to start an arcade one day.

There's some across town (North, West burbs, and downtown)...but I haven't checked em cause I don't feel like driving.

Anybody from Chicago checked out Galloping Ghost Arcade?
