I think his performance is underrated. But quiet roles are almost always overshadowed by much more unique and "showier" roles...like almost everyone else in the film.

The daydream scenes are where he really shone, but the story didn't give his character a ton to work with.

One of several reasons I wish this movie was split in 2. I think some more backstory, on MANY of the characters, would have been incredibly interesting.

They did great for the role they had, but they weren't touching Leo, Waltz nor Jackson's performances. It's more I think the subliminal message that it was a Slave Movie and only the White Actors are getting praise for their performances. Let's not sit up here and act like Hollywood loves to nominate Black Actors cause they don't. Normally it's about 1 a year if we are lucky. This year it's Denzel who is an easy choice for the Oscar but he probably won't win. Hollywood Racism is still alive and well when it comes to award shows like the Oscars and Golden Globes.

Jamie did win an Oscar and Golden Globe but he's right to accent the fact that again Hollywood does not value Black Performances cause they don't. Look at "What's Love Got To Do With It". How did Angela Basset and Lawrence NOT win that award? But instead Halle had to f*ck Billy Bob to win in a role Angela turned down cause of that scene, the irony. Denzel had to be a Dirty Cop. Monique had to be a dead beat mother. Forrest had to be a African Killer Psychopath. I mean most of the roles we win for we have to play terrible human beings.
