am a native Spanish speaker and yes its indolente that can have double meaning to me though it was not a racist line and "pegar un palos" is slang for having some drinks

yeah i know the slang term. it still comes off as racist to me breh. the "indolente" part is not really what bothers me as much as "the african prefers frivolity, the european prefers work"

no doubt he read max weber and saw black people chillin on the beach and reached a hasty conclusion, and if it's not racist it's reductionist at best

Yeah he was racist but also the product of his times.

Even still he did go to Africa and tried to start a revolution.

so blacks enjoy life, and europeans work till they die? IF that's what he's saying, it's not a slight.

by all accounts he was an ignorant teenager of privilege, to be expected of his upbringing, the inspiration of 'che' was his awakening while travelling S. America and witnessing poverty and injustice, and fighting against that injustice, and to use quotes from his teenage period reflects the demonization of Malcolm X based on his youth.

let's call a spade a spade

again its a Spanish/English translation thing IMO, frivolous is the sense he used he was trying to say it roughly was "they enjoy the smaller things in life"

im not sure why all this analysis is needed or why anybody should be surprised

this is what i was saying in that other thread about latinos and south america, fundamentally latin america is a european culture, once you realize that you wouldnt be surprised when a person of european descent like che, says something that is typical of people of european descent

che was white, just as white as george bush or bill clinton, once you digest that piece of information everything will make perfect sense

the other piece of information you need to digest to understand che and south america is that spanish speaking people and english speaking people have been fighting for 500 years and essentially the spanish speaking people lost, so a lot of beef they have with "yankee imperialism" isnt just about human rights or noble causes, some of it comes from wanting revenge against english speaking racist imperialist who beat their spanish speaking racist imperialist ancestors

that being said i think che, castro and chavez and their ilk do have some redeeming qualities so i dont totally dismiss them and their movements or the good things they did or tried to do, but to me they dont represent an alternative to america, i prefer american capitalism to the marxist gibberish they were peddling

Argentinians are on another level with that shyt though. they think they're Italian or some shyt. not to mention the actual Nazis there...

well they are european, so its logical that they claim it, and its logical that nazis move there

it seems illogical to north americans who think that speaking spanish makes you non white

When a certain "cause" takes a higher priority in one's life certain beliefs are tempered a bit. His cause was revolution, "helping" people who looked down upon was a by product. Would he have fought alongside Africans if his cause didn't demand it? I doubt it.

i agree, but i wouldnt be that harsh, che was young when he wrote that and i think che, castro and chavez had good intentions overall, but the way they went about doing it was not morally superior to america even if their intentions are good

chavez not so much, but che and castro are products of white privilege in latin america, they had a worldview of no american domination but they saw themselves (read whites) at the top of the world order and blacks and indians as grateful underlings
