I think people always miss this. This guy was on Degrassi for like 8 years lol. Adding to this, his parents were fairly wealthy, guy lived in upper middle class and up his whole life.
He could have paid people to be on his mixtape if he wanted.
He had to have some sort of deal, what new unknown artist gets put in heavy rotation? I remember in the same week Power 105 started spinning "Best I Ever Had" & Hot 97 was spinning "Successful". I knew something was up...

Drake was shopped to several labels who didn't feel he was marketable. Interscope offered him a Songwriting Deal which he turned down & Sylvia Rhome said he was wack which is why he dissed her so much. He had money so he put out a mixtape with some heavy hitters on it. Wayne really liked him, signed him then brought him on tour with him to promote him & everyone started biting.
"Best I Ever Had" went #1 before he was signed to a major... at the time he was just under Young Money & supposedly had a contract with J Prince for backing at some point which is why his sound has a lot of Houston influence.
People think once you're signed to a G.O.O.D. or Young Money that means you have a deal but it doesn't. Drake is on Young Money/Universal Motown while someone like Jae Mills is only on Young Money because no Major is interested in him...
