The way you look at courting, relationships etc colours the way you listen to the music. The term grown folks music wasn't just for fun,it was a way to keep the subject matter and approach for an adult audience that was the main demographic for R&B. You can tell by the way the music is approached now that there is an understanding from a technical musical standpoint ,but far as maturity and creating music that speaks to that complexity of love/relationships while writing from not just a sexual viewpoint is harder to do and requires more then just cursing and breaking down your engagement with women to fukkin..that's why eventually we return to the classics, they just don't make em anymore.

She reminds me of Sade but more uptempo

:whew: and thicker

I like Tems album

Also :ohlawd:

I agree with the overall premise of this thread though. I liked Ella Mai's LPs and first album but the second one was rubbish to me. HER mixtape stuff was cool but I found her album disappointing.

SiR is cool too. Saint JHN dope. Cleo Sol. Mahalia second album is AMAZING to me. Snoh Allegra too.

It's still good stuff but it doesn't get pushed to the forefront anymore.

Honestly feels intentional just like rap. Trash is pushed. Nothing but stuff that is chaotic.

I agree with OP:obama:

Vulgarity has its place in music but not in R&B

even Death Row when they released R&B tracks on soundtracks and compilations kinda strayed from profanity

Too bad this album didn’t really take off like it should’ve. I’m older and mostly listen to the older stuff, but I mess with some of the newer shyt. This is one of my favorite albums from the recent years. This is a good band making good music that should be all over the radio

This album might be classic status for me. I can listen to it everyday

Hold On is my shyt. I can replay that song over and over

Is this the girl who was fukking Drake while her boyfriend was working out with him?
People say that but idk :hubie:

Also possible she just moved on once she found some success.

She is signed to OVO and drake showed up to her most recent show with Tems this week.
