Vince was an after thought after 01. Nobody was comparing him to Kobe. It was all Kobe vs T-Mac after 01.

True. But in 2000 and 2001 it was Kobe vs Iverson vs Vince vs T-Mac. It was a 4-way battle for who was the best perimeter player in the league.

Vince after 2002 started getting knee problems. Remember the whole jumper's knee thing? Plus he got traded to New Jersey at that time and playing with Kidd kinda took some of the focus off him.

Still in his prime he was being talked about with the very best in the game. He's a bonafide NBA legend. Only a kid who never saw him play during that time would try to downplay his place in NBA history.

Exactly. Vince prolly went to Jordan camps while at UNC and all that, these dudes on here so dumb

They're not dumb. They just looking for any excuse to disregard an NBA's players opinion on their experiences playing the game.

Its downright pathetic the lengths Bron stans will go to disparage the opinions of actual NBA players.

How old are you?

Unlike you lil kid, I don't need to go on basketball reference to figure out what type of player Vince Carter was. I actually watched him as a rookie. Vince Carter in his prime was being compared to Kobe, T-Mac, and Iverson. He was viewed as one of the faces of the league. He was an elite player on both ends of the court.

Vince Carter is a clear cut Hall of Famer. Shut up talkin bout shyt you don't know nothing about.

I'll be 30 in June. I started following the NBA the year the Spurs won their first chip ('99)...

You read me wrong, so I'll give you the opportunity for a do over and to get outta your emotions...

I've watched Vince's entire career. I haven't even checked basketball reference because it would support my stance, not yours. Vince was never a Top 5 player, isn't a Top 20 player of the 2000s and might not even be Top 25. Your entire basketball intelligence is in question from this point forward. You're grossly overrating him from a handful of good seasons...

You don't really belong in the HOF if you have no real accomplishments. The highlight of Vince's career is the 2000 dunk contest. Get outta your emotions, playboy...

I think people tend to overrate Vince, but I think he gets in. Handful of all NBA teams, longevity and he should finish around top 20 in all time scoring. That’s probably around T-Mac tier for Hall of Fame resume.

I can humbly disagree with you! He definitely isn't on T-Mac's level. But I can respectfully disagree, I just have a different opinion!

BHOF is very generous, I've long said there needs to be a separate NBA HOF....

We'll just have to disagree then. I don't judge players I've watched based on their accomplishments. I judge players on their talent and ability. And there is no doubt in my mind Vince Carter is a top 20 player of the 2000s based on talent and ability.

You have to consider their accomplishments. Talent and ability only goes so far, and not that far, truth be told...

Vince is clearly not a Top 20 player of the 2000s. Borderline even Top 25. You have a nostalgia for Vince from his early years. How old are you?

A future Hall of Famer who has played more seasons in the NBA than anybody in NBA history.

If anyone's list of who was the best they ever played against matters, its the guy who has played in the league for over 2 decades.

This.

What's nuts to me is that he played against Wizards Jordan...a shell. And he still ranks him 1...mind blowing.

I been watching the NBA since 1990....

Not being a top 25 player, in a decade, doesn't mean you're trash breh...it just means 25 players were more elite - which is nothing to be ashamed about. It doesn't have to be one extreme or another.

He was an 8 time All-Star and made it to the NBA Finals twice with Kidd leading the way. Now you can argue about the merits of all-star appearances, but what you can't argue is less than 5% of all NBA players actually make 2-3 All-Star appearances much less 7 or 8.

He had 7 seasons where he averaged at least 24.2 points a game (5 of those 7 he was over 25ppg). During his prime he was good for about 5-6 rebounds per game, with about 4.5 assists and 80% from the line.

Sports is entertainment, and when you factor that in there was a 5-6 year stretch where only a handful of players were more entertaining. Vince Carter was doing some fukking amazing shyt during games....I was never a huge fan of his, but his in game dunks were something to behold.

You don't think he was a great player? Ok...but anything less than saying he was a very good player is delusional. I actually have him on the lower end of being a great player. Chips are a team accomplishment. Vince's bad luck was that his two finals appearances he had to face off against Shaq and Kobe with Todd MacCullock as his starting Center.

I don't think he was a bad player and I never said that. But there previously has been no balance to his legacy on here....

He had a couple of elite years and about 5-6 as a really good player. He's played 21 years, and the longer he plays, the more it diminishes his legacy, as he has now spent more than half of his career as an average to below average player...

Since when is being average most of your career HOF worthy? And previously, his prime wasn't put into proper context, just a bunch of romanticizing and shyt. He had a good, not great, peak, and at his best he was not Top 5...

I think when you start talking about the cream of the crop, it matters where you land amongst your peers. Vince wasn't trash. But his prime was in the 2000s, that's his era, if you were at your best in the 2000s and I can easily name 20-25 players who were better, it doesn't mean you were trash. But it symbolizes that Vince was more of a regular guy than an elite player, I really don't get all this "legend" talk ascribed to him...

There's Elite, Very Good, Good, Regular and Bum Status...Vince was very good to nearly great.

Also, I'm not one of those people who subscribe to the theory of the longer you play it diminishes your status, if anything the opposite argument can be made - a 40 year old running up and down with 20 year olds is pretty damn impressive, I don't care if you average 10 ppg.

You can play 25 years and still go online and check a person's 10 best years and extrapolate how good they were at their peaks.

How many players played in the NBA from 2000-2010? Probably anywhere between 600-1000....to be in the top 50-75 is still incredible.

Again, I'm not saying he was a bum. I can agree that he was nearly great, but not quite...

We philosophically disagree on how longevity affects legacy in this instance, that's fine. I've been watching the game 20 years, you're damn near at 30, I think we both have more than enough validity and experience to support our arguments!

Two truly great players are retiring now, Wade and Dirk. Vince at his best is several tiers below them. While its impressive he still has the hunger and physical ability to play, a big part of this to me is that at his best, a number of guys were better. We're not talking about a guy who defined an era--->Vince defined a season or three and only in a really niche manner, being an awesome dunker...

The fact that he has never accomplished anything of note looms large, too. Never carried a team deep into the playoffs. Not a great defender or great shooter. No awards, no Top 5 MVP finishes. No All-NBA. We only romanticize Vince because of how long he's played and because he was the GOAT dunker in a period of 2-3 elite years (if that), and 5-7 total B-level years...
