They rarely ever matched up. Even then I have a hard time believing that a 35 year old MJ is better than a 28 year old Kobe.

Players give props to legends they grew up watching and then played against even if it was at an advanced age.

Kobe himself called Clyde Drexler one of the toughest players he guarded even though by the time he came into the league Clyde was on his last legs.

It's legitimately interesting to me how much Kobe's peers revere & respect him whilst a lot of the fans outside looking in are genuinely angered by him and resentful. To be honest, I get why he seems so at peace upon retiring. Disregarding him directing his focus towards filming, -- and his early success in that avenue -- I think a major reason for the smooth transition is in large part due to his peers, among many who didn't care for him much while playing against him, but still seem to place him on such a high pedastal. They clearly hold him in high esteem. Hell, you could see it play out in the '08 Olympics when literally the greatest players in the world deferred to him in the waning minutes of the championship game.

It's one thing for an outsider to give you respect, but it's totally different to receive that admiration from the guys in your field who were also the best at what they did. It doesn't even have to be basketball or sports. To stand amongst the top 1% and have those same world class talents remark that you are at the very top of the best that they've seen is pretty dope. If you're a man in a competetive field or sport, that's the highest compliment.

Exactly right.

Kobe said it himself. The only people's opinion that ever mattered to him was his peers. He didn't care if the fans or media thought Shaq carried him to 3 titles. He only got mad and wanted to not play with Shaq when he started hearing his own peers say stuff like "if I had Shaq I would have 3 titles". That's when he said no and went about to prove that he was different.

Kobe's peers started revering him in that stretch from 2005-2010 when he was single-highhandedly dominating the league. That's when they realized "oh shyt he really is the next Jordan".

Vince grew up watching MJ on the Bulls though.....so when he played Wiz MJ and got flexed on that's all he needed to know. Peep the vid Truefan posted.....Vince experienced exactly what MJ and his mentality was about.

Bron stans talking about trophy cases when bron won’t even do a dunk contest:mjlol:

Prolly cuz he saw how old wizards MJ was able to shut him down.

To be honest that's more of an indictment on Vince than a compliment to Jordan...

Vince Carter overrated than a muhfukka. He had maybe two elite years early in his career, was a solid B level player for 5-6 years and an average NBA starter for another 5-6 years. Nothing about this nikka legacy is HOF worthy other than being probably the illest dunker ever...

How old are you?

Unlike you lil kid, I don't need to go on basketball reference to figure out what type of player Vince Carter was. I actually watched him as a rookie. Vince Carter in his prime was being compared to Kobe, T-Mac, and Iverson. He was viewed as one of the faces of the league. He was an elite player on both ends of the court.

Vince Carter is a clear cut Hall of Famer. Shut up talkin bout shyt you don't know nothing about.

Vince was an after thought after 01. Nobody was comparing him to Kobe. It was all Kobe vs T-Mac after 01.

Vince gets in the hall off longevity and impact. But if you’re being honest, dude had 3-4 elite years. Has he done anything of significance in the playoff since 01? He had elite talent but has functionally spent the last 10 years alternating between solid role player and journeyman.

I think people tend to overrate Vince, but I think he gets in. Handful of all NBA teams, longevity and he should finish around top 20 in all time scoring. That’s probably around T-Mac tier for Hall of Fame resume.
