You're talking about the pop charts. The same pop charts that NWA and EPMD and countless other rappers said in the 80s and 90s was a sellout move to chase. But here you are saying it's the chart that matters in 2024. The reason the Mariah song with Jay went Billboard #1 is because Mariah was a pop star, Jay wasn't making pop records in the 90s but here you are in 2024 saying it's the chart that matters.

Sir Mix A Lot was the first one with a Billboard #1 for weeks on the charts in 1992





The Greatest rapper of all time had a Billboard #1 solo for weeks in 1997





Fresh Prince without DJ Jazzy Jeff went Billboard #1 for weeks in 1998




And that was just the 90s. Off the head I know Meagan and Kendrick got Billboard #1 hits solo this year.

Edit: Just looked it up and Jack Harlow got 1 this year too

And it's clear the post in the OP is referring to the Hot 100. DMX never had a solo #1 on that chart. The charts he had a #1 on, Jay also had #1's on.
