now that I think about it, that beat was tailor made for X

I wish they never had a falling out... the music they would've made together would've been GOAT level considering their similarities in the beginning

I would say that you have a point if this was taking place anywhere outside of Ny. Flow Joe would ring off depending on what kind of NYC crowd you get. Crack took a shot.
His 90’s shyt would only ring off with 40+ plus East Coast hip hop heads.

Flow Joe was actually on the Billboard 100 in 1993.

I thought the audience would have more of that element but it didn’t.

In fairness, we let crowd reaction dictate shyt too much, this is my number 1 issue with battle rap too. Too much shyt that has nothing to do with catalog/skill has influence over how a crowd is reacting so that's a terrible way to gauge who won or loss.

I think Ja won just because of how he rocked, his energy and performance was stellar...the crowd was awful in general, I didn't take them into account at all.
In a live setting, I disagree. The whole art of being an emcee is being able to command/rock a crowd. Joe is very charismatic but Ja had that shyt on lock in all categories. Not saying you don’t have to have a solid catalogue but everything comes into play with this.

This verzus reminded me of how much I hated Ja’s music but he washed and rinsed Joe. If anything Jas music created that fork in the road where mainstream rap would end up eventually with the song songy/ melodic shyt. Watchin them two doods on stage signified the clear separation between the golden era of hip hop and the early new millennium shyt. Only problem was Fat Joe wasn’t the best representative of that 90s era, his catalogue ain’t bad but dood is just mid as an mc.
This :salute:

And I wish I woulda came in this thread earlier cuz I don’t know how anyone in their right mind could pick fat joe of all people to beat jarule in a versuz smh lol

I'm not a fan of either but Fat Joe has never been an A list artist. Ja was for a few years.

The coil been overrating Joe. He'll luck into a good beat and hook every now and then but his pen has never garnered the respect that warrants the praise I see around here. He's not on the level of guys with hits and not on the level of elite rappers without hits.

This should calm his ego down.

Yea I think Ja and Joe both had good performances, but the crowd was awful. I’m not sure if it was because it was a different crowd than from the LOX/Dipset Verzuz, or if something was wrong with the audio, like it was muted or something, but whatever it was, it was bad
The LOX/Dipset crowd wasn’t that good either it’s that venue it’s trash

He produced Candy Shop. He came up with the beat, and Storch played it. He hummed it for Storch to do...but then ge didn't want it. They both said it
no they didn't

storch made the beat and played it to Joe but Joe thought it was too similar to Lean Back so he told him to add that 'do doo doo doo doo do' sound before the beat. but he didnt end up taking it.

and that is what he equates to 'producing' the track. telling storch to add a sound effect at the start, he did not make or influence the actual beat

Don't underestimate the mod 30s hip hop heads.

I tried to vote 2 days ago but poll was already closed. I feel like the poll should close like 2 or 3 hours before the event rather than the day before. Most people probably vote on the same day.
