That did happen but it was very ahistoric and influenced by people who were outside of the first generation of rappers/born after after hiphop was a distinct genre of music. If you go back listen to those hiphop live jams from the late 1970s/early 80's, you'll hear them harmonizing and singing melodies like todays rappers

listen to these old hiphop tapes from the first/second generation of rappers; these cats was signing and doing melodies because this style was ALWAYS a part of hiphop

Super late to seeing this. It's obvious Ja had a ridiculous amount of hits. But what's really crazy is the short span of time they occurred in. When you consider his run, it was only from like 1999 to 2003? :mindblown: It's crazy. Salute to him. I've been trying to catch up on the Verzus battles and this is currently my favorite. Aside from the goddamn absurdity of the Chaka Khan or Sean Garret ones lmao. Just a fantastic celebration of black music.
