Building regulations. Can't build higher than the Washington monument because you're supposed to be able to see it no matter where you are in the city.

Actually, this is the ordinance
"In 1910, the 61st United States Congress enacted a new law limiting building heights to the width of the right-of-way of the street or avenue on which a building fronts, which is the main law presented by this act."

Crazy thing about it is... they are building so many more high rises at the moment, it's getting congested.

Toronto's skyline is nicer than I thought:leon::ohhh::ehh:

That I know, that was amended from an earlier act but I always thought the purpose was the monument. Oh well, sometimes you fall for the myths :yeshrug:

Of the American cities I've been to

Great: San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago

Good: Houston, Minneapolis

Meh: LA (should be much better for a city that size), San Diego, Dallas, Portland

shyt: Phoenix, San Jose

Wait, how is Houston skyline better than dallas??
Dallas has an advantage over Houston because our uptown and downtown are connected unlike Houston's

ive seen Houston's skyline in person and i was really impressed. a ton of tall buildings i like how it sticks to the point....tall buildings built close to each other. then you have like a 900ft building all by itself a mile away lol. ive never seen Dallas in person but from pics ive seen id go with Houston but Dallas is still good

Who cares about skylines when all of these cities have water/mountains in view.

Portland is one of the most beautiful cities I've been to b/c of the scenery

y'all are probably gonna disagree, but coming from NYC this NOLA skyline is wack as hell to me...

New_Orleans_Skyline_from_Uptown.jpg

i actually disagree i thought New Orleans skyline was decent when i was there it was bigger than i thought. its not mind blowing but for a southern city its not bad

How often do you actually see the mountain when in the city though?

approve this thread.

and if you really like skylines... then look no further than SkyscraperCity - Powered by vBulletin .....

such much :ahh: for the urban buildable environment aficionados :takedat:

And I would say what makes a DOPE SKYLINE is the landscape but then a decent skyline itself .... of course it depends on the angle your looking at it from too....

Case in point....this view of Montevideo, Uruguay......

Backtrack Note: ^^ I take that back.................no landscape is necessarily needed if y ou have awesome buildings then they will speak for themselves...nice vegetation and landscape architecture helps too...

Case reallly in point......
