I wish he talked more about the studies themselves I'm not as quick to accept what he says as fact without evidence as you appear to be.
Not that he is wrong, but he basically came on and said I found this, and I think this, without saying how...
Yes.... what metrics is the author using to measure besides his own gut hunch and dislike of social scientistsYou disagree with this?
You were more than willing to accept the musings of the article you posted thoughI wish he talked more about the studies themselves I'm not as quick to accept what he says as fact without evidence as you appear to be.
The OP made clear the difference between statistical brackets and flesh and blood human beings, something That can be understood and confirmed with little effort... and thats mainly what I agree with. You were more than willing to accept the musings of the article you posted though
Dude in the OP says "disregard studies" you disregard studies... dude who doesn't disagree with you says 'based on studies x y z' now you want to see studies.....
Individual anecdotes (i.e. "flesh n blood stories") add up to statistical brackets. And just because you refuse to commit to explicitly agreeing or disagreeing with a side doesn't mean you don't make it abundantly clear where you stand. The OP made clear the difference between statistical brackets and flesh and blood human beings, something That can be understood and confirmed with little effort... and thats mainly what I agree with.
If you are suggesting they are both wrong thats fine. I didnt say he was right or wrong just that I wish he provided more info on the study.
Its clear you dont understand the difference between brackets and people.Individual anecdotes (i.e. "flesh n blood stories") add up to statistical brackets. Upward mobility in America is becoming a thing of the past for a myriad of statistically and factually demonstrable reasons. Anyone who makes an argument about a large number of people w/no regard for statistics (like the dude you quoted in the OP) is not to be taken seriously.
Its clear you dont understand the difference between brackets and people.
Its not a matter of statistics vs anecdotes.
Question, whats wrong with asking for evidence of what the economist in the interview was saying
bu bu bu but the researchers represent a prestigious universityI wish he talked more about the studies themselves I'm not as quick to accept what he says as fact without evidence as you appear to be.

I thought we were supposed to disregard any evidence showing a decline or absence in access to upward mobility? Now you want it? If someone provides it you will just follow the dude in the OP's lead and write it off "I dont need numbers"Question, whats wrong with asking for evidence of what the economist in the interview was saying
New evidence can change my opinion on anything.I thought we were supposed to disregard any evidence showing a decline or absence in access to upward mobility? Now you want it? If someone provides it you will just follow the dude in the OP's lead and write it off "I dont need numbers"
How can something you disregard for not confirming your bias change your opinionNew evidence can change my opinion on anything.
