edit:
I believe you're using anecdotal evidence from a conservative opinion columnist in place of the findings of a multitude of studies.
I believe those studies suffer from the below flaw.

Most of the media publicize what is happening to the statistical brackets — especially that "top one percent" — rather than what is happening to individual people.
I believe this to be 100% true, and your links/arguments reinforce this belief. :ehh:

I actually agree, but shouldnt the argument be made that black mobility is limited then? if we are conceding that asian immigrants do well? :ld:

I think the argument is that upward mobility is becoming more difficult for everybody, however every demographic is not affected in the same way. It would be interesting to see rates of upward mobility over the last 30 years broken down by race/ethnicity.

I believe the studies referenced in those quotes are exactly what he is talking about...:dwillhuh:

Maybe, but all he mentioned in the article was raw income increasing over a period of decades. Aside from that being the case pretty much everywhere, and so not telling us anything specific about income inequality in different places, there's also at least one, big elephant in the room I'm sure you can recognize immediately.

Not at all, I am just agreeing that the studies follow statistical brackets, not flesh and blood human beings :manny: making them unreliable/inaccurate.

Judging by the reactions though this is completely off base...:patrice: I just dont see how.
I must be having a real school bus moment cause I dont understand the opposition.:dwillhuh:Which I usually do, whether I admit it or not...

so then what's the alternative/superior statistical model following individuals? Humor me and design a small experiment.

:ohhh: oh you just accpet it because you see no alternative... :ehh:Thanks for clearing that up.

As for a design, thats easy. The way we track athletes :blessed:
Think about it, each individual player(and team) is carefully monitored and tracked every year, for a number of stats, depending on the sport. This is a system much more complex than what is being asked for here, and its been going on for oh gawd what 50yrs now. Granted on a much smaller scale, but you asked for a superior design, and it fits the bill:manny:

Imagine if baseball stats were tracked by brackets :scusthov:

:troll: but tracking 'teams' isn't that far removed from brackets doe?

A myth? Depends. There are a lot of rags to riches stories. A lot of riches to rags stories too. And some rags-to-riches-then-back-to-rags stories too.

But multiculturalists' celebration of foreign languages or ethnic dialects, and of counterproductive cultural patterns exemplified by such things as gangsta rap, can promote the very social stagnation that they blame on "society.

:wtf:
