In the texts she says he called the cops after she collapsed, later at home. Whether her collapsing was a dramatic act or something else...we don't know. Whatever it was, it was serious enough for him to call the cops knowing she had bruises on her from earlier. Just a series of insane decisions. I get that she could have called the police and he'd likely look worse in that case. But if I was him I wouldn't have called. And I wouldn't have my lawyer out here blowing up my defense by releasing texts.
