If Newton doesn't get a scheme change, the contract amounts to dead money. As of right now, Neton is not good enough from the pocket to win in the playoffs. He isn't accurate enough downfield or in the short quarters. Moreover he doesn't throw well enough on the run like you might expect from a mobile QB. Carolina should have changed coordinators last year to something more Chip Kellyesque. If Newton succeeded in that scheme, I would gladly give him a contract.

You do realize he has shyt for weapons right? Outside of Kelvin Benjamin and an old Steve Smith he hasn't gotten the weapons needed to succeed in. He deserves the money just for putting up with the piss poor management by the front office.
