Even if he got released tomorrow that's still 60 milly guaranteed to a QB who has been mediocre his whole career and hasn't consistently improved in any phase of the game.

Let's be straight up brehs: do you believe Cam Newton is worth a contract that will pay him over 100 million if he plays the contract in its entirety?

I mean if he doesn't play well then he won't see the full length of that deal. Looks frontloaded to me which will help the Panthers in the future should he wear down. And you don't know how much of the 60 mil is injury guaranteed. The actual guarantee he gets from playing still remains to be seen but like most contracts of this nature I'm willing to bet it'll cut into the 60 mil value. People are seriously overreacting to this contract just as they did with Dalton, Tannehill and Kapernick. It is very reasonable for those franchises

Cam is only a mediocre QB if you completely ignore how much he contributes to the running game. Compared to how he was when first entering the league Cam has greatly improved as a decision maker as well and is a guy that you can trust to manage an offense through the passing game. Give Cam a good O-Line and he'll be just fine going forward.

Why are people hating? Brothas can't have 100 Million Contracts? Donovan did, Vick did twice. I'm not saying Cam is better than them but 4 Years, 2 Playoff Births. Tons of NFL Records. I think Cam is on a nice pace. It was really on the sophomore year he kinda fell off but let's not act like everything about those Panthers teams were great. He's had some up and downs yes but I'm happy the brotha got paid. Carolina's thinking long term, why not invest in Cam now? I give his first 4 years about a B grade overall. Yes only 1 playoff win but again 2 Division titles and 2 Playoffs births. Not perfect, there's still room for improvement but he is progressing. Seattle and Indy are done. Russell and Andrew are going to clean up something heavy just based on Cam's pay metrics.

On NFL network an analyst was basically arguing that Wilson doesn't have to get paid as much because he's not relied on to carry the offense like cam is
cam doesnt really carry the offense either. cam hasnt been relied heavily to carry the panthers offense since his first year when that squad was awful and D would let in a million points.

in todays game if your qb throws less than 500 attempts per season hes not really carrying the offense. thats totally fine with me and I always argue you dont need to pass a ton to be a good qb, but you cant really make an argument that cam carries that offense

you look at cams numbers over the last two years and theyre more or less identical to alex smith's. its nothing to sneeze at, and theyre good numbers, but theyre not quite carrying the offense. if anything, what russ, cam, kaep, smith and others have in common is that theyre low volume passers (all around 450ish attempts) who arent relied on passing a ton and most importantly dont commit many turnovers, and thats a big part of the reason why their teams win games

I cant wait for seattle to give russ that 25+ milly deal tho :noah:

Who was cam throwing to before this year? He was one year removed from Steve smith. He's always had line and rb issues. The panthers don't score a lot. The offense relies on him because if he's not scoring who is? Hopefully him and Benjamin add on to last year success.

Panthers are a team that relies on defense and run game, same as seahawks, chiefs, niners (did :mjcry:). No doubt Cam stepped up when needed, but it is what it is. Russ never even had the equivalent of KB or Steve Smith to throw to :manny: this isn't about comparing weapons tho, its about putting the burden on the qb. And like I've said, teams that don't put the burden on qb unless he's elite, are way better off.

So you're perfectly fine with a game manager qb as a opposed to a game changer qb?

Short answer is a big yes. I believe qb is the most overrated position in sports. I believe teams win with defenses first and foremost. I'd take a qb who doesn't commit turnovers and who makes great decisions over qb who makes great plays and makes great blunders. So that doesn't mean I think cam or russ are bad qbs, on the contrary the fact that they play off their defense and run game and avoid turnovers means they're making good decisions, and step up to make throws when needed. I'm just commenting on how cam or russ aren't luck-like in volume passing and teams dependence on them. That is not to say luck is better, but just a dependence kind of a thing :manny:
