I'm almost 100% sure that the plan was for Page to win and lose it to MJF soon after his Jericho feud.
Scrap that
If I had to guess for now Punk comes in, light intro and then a major feud with MJF, they wouldn't put that as a title feud so early so they scrap all plans
Bryan vs Omega is the big money match. It's AEW's Austin vs Rock 20 years ago. It's the match that will allow them to sell 35k tickets to some stadium and make it huge. That has to be the plan and by then Kenny would have been the champ for a while so it makes sense for him to lose it.
So what happens with Page, you think he's being a little bytch about this? Nah, he understands and he slots in perfectly as Bryan's ally in that feud
I easily see a Omega/Ibushi vs Hangman/Bryan dream tag happening too.
Giving Page the title now, removes Kenny and MJF from the main event picture and him feuding with Punk or Bryan won't make sense So soon.
I'm sure there's been multiple rewrites and not many make sense with him prevailing now.
