@icedoll456
the tiktok ban is also bad cus its just gonna become a slippery slope where its gonna set the precedent for more websites and apps getting banned simply because they do something subjectively disagreeable to the us government

2/2
@icedoll456
“china has a great firewall on their internet!!11” yeah and that might be us next too

Countries Likely to Follow US Lead to Ban Social Media Sites.

The United States has set a bold precedent by confronting social media giants that fail to align with its values and rules. .

Najua one requirement to be recruited as a kk blogger is being dumb but US only banned TikTok because it's Chinese and FB, X, WhatsApp, Instagram, and other US social media are banned in China.

They want to force the owners to sell to a US company

@BillyMijungu
True. I also know i jerk when i see one. The post is futuristic.

Wait and see how it rolls across the world.

The attack on Tiktok is “a direct threat to free expression,” as my @CatoInstitute colleague @Thomas_A_Berry explains.

Also, globally, it will be a terrible precedent:

If the US bans Tiktok, then why other governments around the world not ban any platform that displeases them?
[Quoted tweet]
When Congress goes after a platform for hosting certain viewpoints, it’s a direct threat to free expression. The Supreme Court should save TikTok—and the First Amendment. cato.org/blog/supreme-court-…

"The US has banned the sale and import of new communications equipment from five Chinese companies, including Huawei and ZTE, amid concerns over national security."

It's essentially this again, doesn't bother me one bit to be honest :yeshrug:

:what:

it's very clear you don't understand the issue if thats the comparison you're using. tiktok is not hardware, they serve different purposes and markets. the tiktok ban is being contested on first amendment grounds which doesn't really apply to import of telecommunication equipment. that huawai ban didn't impact consumers or businesses the same way this tiktok ban is expected to. the already installed/purchased telecommunication equipment are no longer able to get direct updates but they can still be used. my brother was still using his huawei phone after the ban. tiktok is expected to be blocked/inaccessible.

these bans aren't comparable.

TikTok will get another 90 days to sell with a knife at its throats, I don’t see the ccp selling their favorite app though

TikTok is just the first domino of a very nasty incoming domino effect for the commoners of this country.

[Quoted tweet]
By the way, the tiktok ban paves the way to ban Discord, League of Legends, Reddit…really ANY internet communication deemed a “foreign adversary” up to the discretion of the US government.

@ivy_wylder
This is also why they want to implement the age verification for porn laws btw. It’s under the guise of “protecting children” but it’s really just setting a precedent for them to be able to control what you see online and monitor what you’re consuming. Oh, and far-right christian puritanism thrown in for good measure.

3/31
@EiratheIntern
Reddit and Discord are American Companies.

4/31
@LunacyFarm
20% ownership stake from any country we don't like is a $5k per user fine. Very normal.

5/31
@leamaric
God willing… hellfire through all these channels

6/31
@TheNooticer
Riot and Tencent next please.

7/31
@Tradwife2222
lol, ok so?

@wangbangpro
good ban it all, add marvel rivals to the list

@realdemocrat135
I though corporations weren’t citizens

@doomguy255

@Jay_yay555
What happened to that extra 280 days we were supposed to get???

13/31
@squiddinc
Pretty based tbh

14/31
@alicesmonkey
I'm just curious about how they plan to enforce this ban.

15/31
@Tyrocks12ty
Very important to look at the bigger picture, people weren’t lying when they said we need to prepare for the future. Any sort of communication mass space between people can be compromised if TikTok is banned if it deemed as a “national security threat”

16/31
@ZeitGoetia
Discord and reddit are American companies.

17/31
@Fi7z
So we can ban X because Elon is anti-american?

18/31
@jo_youwhatmate
Literally

"What's the big deal, it's just Tiktok"

The big deal is that it sets a LEGAL precedent

19/31
@LenoreThalia
It's also a slippery slope for this to impact brick and mortar businesses as well. The government can just be like ope that country is an adversary, you have to sell or close now. Eminent domain 2.0

20/31
@RedWingsPheonix
Insane how many "patriots" are so happy about their free speech being ripped up.

21/31
@Aetreiythe
And the fact the government can bring forth “secret evidence” for consideration before the court and that evidence isn’t even seen by the governments lawyers nor is it spoken or written of in any substantive detail in the judgement or even in passing.

22/31
@MichelangeloPhD
Good

23/31
@0megalvl3vent
There will be no discretion, apples and oranges, tik tok was caught passing info after they were explicitly told not to, chances were given, China did not care.

FAFO.

24/31
@ProphetChaos714

25/31
@LibertyLudens

26/31
@LongoGablogian
?
What foreign adversary controls Discord, or Reddit, or League of Legends?

27/31
@disorderlyswine
That TT didn’t roll out the video of Romney and Blinken discussing pro-Palestinian content being the driving factor for a ban, and TT CEO Shou Chew attending the Trump inauguration, it must open the possibility of some other game being in play.

28/31
@BhutlahBobby
Or Minecraft

29/31
@havali_x
this does set a precedent which can be used in later cases against all of the above mentioned and even more, if we really think about it! fairly dangerous

30/31
@Yung_Ferengi
Please god, let me see a League of Legends ban enforced with capital punishment

31/31
@_Ellen_W
I’ve been assuming all along that was the reason the wanted to do it.

Makes you wonder if that law is specifically for foreign companies or all companies? I don’t remember it being for specifically for foreign companies, hopefully I’m wrong

No but it gives the Chinese communist party full access to all your Information in your phone. For example service members can be tracked to their locations which is a huge OPSEC issue. Any potential vulnerability the person has can and will be exploited. The CCP plays the long game. They have no issues grooming people from a young age to exploit them further into their careers. The rise of China is on the back of stolen American technology and indormation. The fact that people think their free speech is protected by China is crazy. China allows what benefits China.

It’s not free speech issue. You just can’t speak on that platform. Y’all n***as will be fine.
