I've crossed that way a few times, area is SUPER remote and creepy but I'm pretty sure he's making the story up. It's the fukking desert the entire way, I can't think of anywhere on the route where there is "tall grass on both sides of the road", not the kind people could be hiding in.
Dude felt creeped out when he drove the road and made up a horror plot-story to match.

Told his co-worker's wife to erase his number from her phone out of the blue, the day before.
Seems fishy
A lot of suicides don't tend to have notes, shyt tends to be spontaneous.
