They have no intention of making straight horror movies though.None of those actors do horror.
Which means they are gonna try and do something 'hip' or comedic.
They would of drawn more attention attaching writier/directors than actors for those franchises.
If they gave Dracula/Frankenstein/Wolfman/InvisibleMan to a group that colaborates on legit horror like Rob Zombie, Eli Roth... etc then they would have the internet going crazy. Instead they are just setting up a full wave of PG-13 monster trash.

Plus Rob Zombie and Eli Roth make shytty movies on the regular.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
Tom Cruise stars along with Annabelle Wallis (Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, Annabelle), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World) and Courtney B. Vance (“American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson”). The film also stars Russell Crowe (Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, Man of Steel) as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, who also produces alongside Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious series, Wanted) and Sean Daniel (The Mummy trilogy, The Best Man series). Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the screenplay, and Bobby Cohen executive produces. It’s being planned as the first film in the Universal Monster cinematic universe with plans for The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and Van Helsing all in various stages of development.
Having already filled its upcoming monster universe with A-list talent including Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Russell Crowe, Universal is now eyeing another star to revive a famous character.
Sources tell Variety that Javier Bardem is in talks to star as Frankenstein in Universal’s classic monster movie series. It’s currently unknown which monster feature Bardem would first appear in. Cruise and Crowe’s “The Mummy,” the first film in the monster series, is nearly done with filming.
Universal is also developing a “Bride of Frankenstein” feature, but sources indicate that Bardem’s Frankenstein would likely appear in another monster pic first with the possibility of getting a spin-off down the road.
Last summer, the studio tapped Alex Kurtzman (“Star Trek”) and Chris Morgan to help develop the monster pics as connected universe.
Ironically, Bardem had been approached about playing the Dr. Jekyll role opposite Cruise in “The Mummy,” but ultimately passed on the part, which opened the door for Crowe.
