The problem is that it's a non-case with the current laws. It was self-defense, but it was self-defense against teenagers in a situation that Scott initiated, a situation that Scott could have simply avoided by taking photo/video and calling the police. Nobody was in danger of losing their life, and Scott was not involved when the crime began. The problem is the laws can never replace common sense. 3 crips/hell's angels/latin kings/neo-nazis armed and beating the sh*t out of somebody, gun. Unarmed teenager(s) doing suspicious activity, words/crowbar/bat/call cops. The people who pull their guns in the second scenario would stay the f*ck inside the house in the first one. The only difference is that they FEEL they got the advantage, which makes them want to be a hero. That's not a hero. A hero is somebody who is outnumbered against hardened men trying to prevent a crime.

At best, what they can do with law IMHO is that make it so it's not easy to have the authority to pull triggers in the street. In the case like Scott/GZ, you only have the right to take such action if you've passed a rigorous course teaching you on how to solve situations in a non-fatal manner. Then in a court of law, should the situation have resulted in death, you need to show as per your training you took steps to avoid a fatality before it happened. But in the end, the law can only do so much, it's the people that need to use their f*ckin' head.
