@jj23 think they'll blame the brexit economic fallout on the virus?
I would.

Boris has some leeway. Folks aren't unhappy with him. He has been competent handling the crisis.

Corona will be impossible to separate from daily life for a while, so I am sure he will use it if he can.

From whose point of view? He has said some stupid things, but he has been competent. Or at least he has appeared to be competent.

His big blindspot will be the ventilators he failed to get. But his response to self employed and furloughed workers shows he is working to make a difference.

Of at least he is appearing to work to make a difference.

Appearances are everything.

The Guardian has an interesting list of questions that will need to be asked when this is all over

Testing
1 Why did the UK decide to abandon testing and tracing contacts of everyone with symptoms in spite of a plea by the World Health Organization to “test, test, test”?

2 The government has pledged to reach 100,000 tests for infections a day – but when?

  • And will that include carers and other essential workers as well as those on the NHS frontline?
3 The prime minister has said an antibody test will be a game changer. But when will the home test be available?

  • And how can restrictions on those who test positive in the community be lifted in a fair and safe way?
Ventilators
1 Why did the British government decide not to take part in the EU scheme of bulk-buying of ventilators?

2 Some ventilator manufacturing firms have reported selling their machines to other countries – after receiving no response when offering them to the UK government.

  • Is this true?

  • Were there too few officials liaising with business on this vital project?
3 The government has now made a number of bulk orders for ventilators.

  • But will enough be ready in time to meet demand at the expected peak of the outbreak?

  • And what are the contingency plans if they do not?
Personal protective equipment
1 Given the first cases of coronavirus in Britain emerged on 30 January, why has the NHS in recent weeks had such limited stocks of vital PPE such as FFP3 masks, visor/goggles and surgical gowns?

2 Why did Public Health England decide to issue advice to NHS staff on PPE that is different to that of the World Health Organization, and on what evidence was the decision based?

3 Given the concerns about asymptomatic transmission, should all patients be considered potential Covid-19 carriers?

  • This would mean PHE guidelines being applied to all hospital areas, not just those containing confirmed Covid-19 patients

His approach from the offset. Herd immunity for starters, its a given you could say it was the chief scientific advisor who put that there as an option for him. On the otherhand, Boris (or Cummings more likely) is putting a bunch of yes men in positions where they can control "advice" - see Sajid Javid's resignation. Secondly, Boris's modus operandi was to do pretty much nothing, see what Nicola Sturgeon was announcing as Scotlands policy, wait 2-3 days, then implement it in England :hhh:

Don't forget, this idiot was talking about social distancing but still rolling up to hospitals shaking corona patients hands, now has caught it himself (and probably half the cabinet :francis:)

Competent wouldve been securing enough testing kits well in advance when the warning signs were there in Feb. Even now health care workers havent been routinely tested. Sad shyt is that Ocado have ordered something like 100k kits and received 40k already. WTF is the government/NHS doing? I really wouldnt doubt Boris trying to line the pockets of his mates even in this situation (Dyson approached to flip and make ventilators, even when other companies could source and send 5k per week til the end of April?)

All valid points, but in a climate of fear when people are increasingly dependent on government and the opposition is a shyt show, he only has to get a right a few times to look like the hero in all this.

Boris was briefed on COVID in December. He sat on it

I think Starmer can in 2024 but Labour should have gone with a woman this time. I know she's polarizing but Jess Phillips would have gotten the female vote out.
