Have things improved post Brexit yet?

Wages, cost of goods, NHS?

No, no and no.

And the shiny new Labour government seem intent on business as usual.

I've spent three quarters of my wage-earning life living under "austerity" and the only people promising to do anything about it are the racist liars and conservative economic nihilists.

I always thought Starmer was an undercover Conservative and his first year in power has proven that.

a long time ago in a galaxy far away

a breh came bearing unwelcome truths :hubie:

TL;DR: i have never voted in my entire life. anyone who believes anything any of these charlatans says is a f****** idiot.

You have effectively disqualified yourself from being taken seriously.

Go in peace.

Yes. Starmer made an excuse and is continuing austerity.

Next election i am voting green.

Labour and the conservatives are very much alike right now. With reform looking to launch fascism.

You got me. They are all liars.

I will try the greens and see if they lie to me as well.

It's still no excuse for not participating. :yeshrug:

After 12 years of Conservative austerity leaning further and further towards Reform, we needed new personalities if nothing else.

I'm in the same boat as you but I still think we'd be in a worse/more chaotic place if we'd let Sunak's cabinet of misfits carry on.

With the election still years away, it feels like the best we can do is pressure Labour to change course by telling them they can't rely on our votes again. If they don't want this country to go down the same route as the US post-Biden, we need proposals that actually inspire people. The next election will be won by the team who, whether they're lying or not, convince the public they'll actually improve their lives somehow.

Starmer isn't currently offering anything but "we'll think about improving society once we've finished the wrecking job David Cameron started on it".

Agreed. I will never stop participating. 8 am just saying, I can't vote for Labour based on their time in office so far.

That may change in future, but right now nah.

It's a shyt situation whatever way you cut it under FPTP. We need electoral reform but that seems further away than ever.

the uk's husk of a political system is riven through with rigor mortis to the extent that it is set in stone.

there is no party that speaks to the people, much less one that speaks to brehdom.

its establishment seized the reins ("reigns") of power centuries ago and their thrall remains absolute.

the house of lords, oxbridge, the royal family, queen's honours, landed gentry, received pronunciation, the (real) lord mayor of london, the guilds etc in 2025 is a bad joke.

second only to the passivity with which people blithely accept it.

even the "newspaper of the masses" was edited by a toff called "piers".

there is no party which speaks for the people much less one that speaks to brehdom, and now even the gringo masses are noticing that.

the imposters that stand in their stead are corrupt liars, who will do nothing to dismantle the establishment and have done little to use legislation to ofset the wrongs of yesteryear.

they let industry run wild, excluding whomever they may and even had the temerity to give the royals an exemption from general equality laws.

TL;DR "participation"?

participation in what?

I don't disagree with pretty much any of this but, as impotent as it is, I still think there's a responsibility to choose "least worst" when given the option.

Not arguing far on this though because largely I agree. We've got two ever so slightly different shades of beige to choose from right now and no reason to think that'll change soon.

Labour reacted to getting busted in 2010 by giving us a proper candidate with a proper manifesto, so maybe the electorate abandoning them has worked at times... but the establishment immune system couldn't allow it a fair crack at being elected so it gained us nothing.

how did civil rights in the USA happen?

through voting?

the UK order is even more established (though less violent) than the norms in the USA were at that point.
