They need more shows like 24/7 imo to expose some of these guys. Not all of em are superstar material, but it gives the fighters some foundation to stand on instead of having them hide behind the shadows of the promotion(UFC)

They do spots on fighters lives on 'insider', then there is the backstories on countdown, the viral " I am a fighter" ads.We get more access to what these fighters think/have been through than all the other sports put together.And to be honest UFC fighters arent really that interesting to listen to..We dont need no 24/7 sh!t for some dude chillin in his crib.Save that for a big fight

Dana White is too much of a control freak and wants to be the star himself too much. I don't think he wants anyone to be seen as "bigger" than the UFC, even though that would probably be a good thing in the end.

While I agree u also have to look at the flipside.The ufc can never sustain any sort of momentum with its "stars".When Liddell was on the cusp to crossover rampage happened.Forrest was suppose to be that guy to make uncoordinated, non-athletic white folks believe but he has no heart.GSP can never stay healthy and only attracts gays.When brock was on the cusp diverticulitis happened then he got wrecked & bounced, Look at how they built overeem then he gets caught and screws things.

So just imagine if they put all their eggs in these baskets it would be disastrous.I liken it to the NBA, they rode that MJ wave for what it was worth & it was a blessing and a curse which the league didnt recover from until the late 00s..

Breh, MMA kickboxing is different from standard kickboxing. You gotta change your whole stance and everything.(ex: Wide feet, wilder punches) In standard kickboxing, you don't have to anticipate someone shooting a takedown. If you come in MMA doing standard kickboxing/boxing footwork, you're going straight to your back immediately.

...and as I mentioned before, if the UFC cage were smaller, or a ring like pride, you'd see way less circling going on cuz too much circling would eventually get you cornered.

True. Doesn't mean I want to see 15 minutes of circling because of those nuanced differences and because people are fighting scared due to them.

Think Dana will ever consider doing something like Pride's card penalty system for inactivity? I doubt it, but I think it could also be a good thing for eliminating inactivity like making the octagon smaller (They'll never use Pride-style rings).

I think that was only Dana White (who probably didn't believe it) and extreme UFC marks. MMA is, and always has been, taking pro wrestling's audience more than anything.

Overexposure is their biggest problem as far as numbers but I think that's what they want. If they did 8-10 PPVs a year with stacked cards they would be doing bigger numbers, they still sell a lot of PPVs for major fights (800k for Jones vs Evans).

ever since he stopped being "rush" he has basically become a horizontal fighter.I can understand the pleasure in watching jujitzu practitioners do their craft.The transitions/subb att/defence is like poetry in motion.But gsp is the polar opposite he uses wrestling to stall fights.So not only are we gettin a lull in action but the fight looks aesthetically ugly.When he actually does strike he does the jab and flee technique,which while effective looks pansy and is so repetitive. Given all that hes still the no 1 draw and ppl swear hes the best ever thats a good indication his fans aint watchin fo the right reasons

Another reason why.....too much fukking wrestling....and the fact that the rules, scoring system and the cage pretty much caters to wrestlers.

No kicks/knees to the head of a downed opponent = low risk/high reward takedown attempts. Wrestlers can pretty much keep shooting for takedowns while only having to worry about being sprawled/darced/guillotene'd and nothing more. Taking away the risk of eating knees or kicks coming in gives them a distinct advantage flat out. Kicks/knees to the head on the ground is one of the things that made pride way more exciting.

The scoring system favors wrestlers heavily as well. Because of this, you have "gameplan" fighters coming in with the intention to simply get dominant position while throwing love taps here and there. I know this is a sport, but come the fukk on, this is the ultimate FIGHTING championships. I miss the old days where dudes came in laying it all on the line ready to either knock someone the fukk out, or make them tap knowing damned well about the risks while not being too scared shytless to lose. Don't get me wrong....I'm not asking for ppl to come in wreckless and can appreciate a good technical battle, but just as long as fighters are actually trying to finish the fukking fight, not doing just enough to get by on points. Once again, pride was more exciting, because simply having a dominate position wasn't enough, you had to actively be going for a sub or finish with strikes, else the ref would stand your ass up or penalize you for inactivity.

Now as far as the cage....I think they should make that shyt smaller. In the pride ring, a striker could close you off and wreck your shyt if you tried to run, so you'd have no choice but to engage. The size of the UFC cage allows fighters to run from strikers a bit too much.

Oh, and I also think that championship fights should have 10 min. first rounds...giving fighters an incentive to go for a finish in title fights instead of leaving it to the judges.

I miss Pride.

I agree with all of this. So much "strategic" fighting going on that it's hard to watch. I think a lot of it comes from the fact that they know they have a much better chance of keeping a job if they lose a close fight versus getting knocked out a couple times in a row. So instead they fight safe and to avoid losing in an embarrassing fashion. Whatever it is I would love to see more fights with each opponent aggressively fighting for a finish whether it's through striking or submissions.

They should put more free events on television like boxing. With boxing you could always catch a match on USA or something like that. With MMA, most of the time, you're paying for it. Lastly, with the rise of the black athlete being a default champion, it will be difficult for racist friends of European descent to identify with the sport as the men they exalt as the best are turned into tomatoe cans by superior athletes.
