I had it 4-1 Stipe as well. He fought smarter and did more damage.

DC should have been the one clinching and dirty boxing. He should have gone for takedowns after connecting and not just throw the same right hand over and over looking for a KO. I get it, he likes to fight hard and finish, but he really should have strategized better tonight.

Daniel Cormier is 41 years old, besides the fact that Stipe can wrestle himself, dude is way beyond the age of being able to wrestle to a victory without gassing himself out. Stipe is not Volkan or Lewis, dude isn't someone DC can just mandhandle in wrestling.

The problem wasn't that DC didn't wrestlefukk him effortlessly like he did with Lewis, the problem was outside of literally ONE single exchange/takedown he never seriously threatened his wrestling at any point in the fight. Not even earnestly faking a level change and just putting that into Stipe's head for him to ever have to think about made it that much easier for him to find his timing, range, and let his hands go knowing DC wasn't even gonna feint punishing him for it.

This is what makes Khabib so otherworldly; so many "elite" grapplers nowadays straight up abandon even trying to wrestle or take a fight to the ground if they get stuffed once or their opponent gets up just one time. Khabib fully commits to every shot, trip, throw, etc. and he relentlessly chains them into ten more wizzers, transitions, passes, trips, etc. Which then gasses his opponent out trying to fight the onslaught of pressure, making that easier to setup in the following rounds. shyt ain't 2005 where all wrestle boxers had in their arsenal was one single sprawl and that was it for the whole fight; you can't be GSP spamming telegraphed double legs and expect to get it 100% of the time and for the opponent to never get up from it in modern MMA. You gotta commit and keep the pressure and adjustments up constantly. Or the opponent will adjust and put the pressure on you

He had 8 inch reach advantage but was letting DC get that shytty jab off for free :dead: Stipe should've ended this shyt

Thanks Cuz

And was gassed and had one good eye..... ONE.

I just feel like the Stipe of a year ago would’ve knocked him out.

Like dude wasn’t even trynna throw more punches and test that eye more. He shouldn’t been circling to DCs left and just keep jabbing and throwing bombs or setting him up better to connect with them rights

That was a pretty clear 3-2 or even 4-1 Stipe. The only rounds you could argue for DC are by razor thin margins, while the rounds Stipe won he was way ahead on volume and damage. If Cormier showed up in better shape he coulda maybe stole that even with only 1 working eye, but he was low-key gassed from the 3rd on and spent too much time flattened against the fence for the 2nd half of the fight. Still better than basically any UFC heavyweight title fight but man. If Cormier could commit to a diet he could still be a 3 division world champ; nobody is stuffing or getting up from his takedowns at the weight he SHOULD have always been fighting at for his height and reach, which is 185. :francis:

For real, that’s probably his Achilles heel at the end of the day. He knows how to turn it on when it’s time but dude just lets himself go between fights. When he fukked his back up a couple years back he was looking like he weighed 3 bills sitting behind the commentator’s table.

It makes me mad when they show college clips and you see how athletic and cut breh looked as an NCAA wrestler. Of course that was youth, but you also know he wasn’t gorging himself with food back then

DC is an Olympic wrestler, and he got manhandled by Stipe. The guy is a solid grappler, his boxing is the best in the division, and he has a great gas tank for a heavyweight.

Jones has struggled with bigger fighters in his career, and those guys are less skilled than Stipe. It wouldn’t be an easy fight at all for Jones.

Other than Gus, which bigger fighters did he struggle with? He ran through Bonnar, Vera and O’Brien. Sure they’re lower level fighters but size didn't seem to have helped them at all. He struggled with Santos (MW) and Reyes more than anyone else, and to be honest I think that’s due to USADA.

Stipe’s boxing is the thing I imagine being a problem for him.

Who are you putting over Stipe in terms of UFC heavyweights?

He’s only had 7 HW championship fights and is 6-1. And in that only for 5 guys. Only one who would be consider a GOAT.

Now if he cleaned his division out and had over 10 fights I could agree with it. I may not like it but I could agree. This niccas a Ryan Bader ass niccas in a company with a bigger budget and more reach in the world:russ:

Who in UFC HW got a better record tbh? I just don't see it.
