Dustin in between rounds was legit shocked at how good Khabib is, I know he's watched hours of tape but nothing prepared him for the reality

anytime I have casuals over to watch a khabib fight the first thing they always mention is how unimpressive he looks physically, not very tall or muscular but you can tell dude is strong as an ox, he pins grown men down. When Dustin said in frustration "I can't fukin get him off of me" that's when I knew he had lost the fight already

@TheDarceKnight nice breakdown. Would rep if I could.

Agree on all points. As you alluded to Tony can fight off his back and create submission opportunities. I don’t see anyone taking Khabib down in the division. He’s in his prime and running through everyone effortlessly.

I’m wondering - if Khabib beats Ferguson who is left? Does he go up a weight division? Dude is just hitting his prime and is only 30.
I believe he said he’d like to fight tony, then gsp, then retire. I could be wrong. Maybe someone can correct me. But I’m pretty sure he’s looking at winding his mma career down.

No doubt. personally though I'd like to see him on the submission grappling circuit. Maybe do ADCC in 2021. I think he's got a very good style for it, and with a dedicated training camp I'd be curious to see how far he could go.

100%.

Same.

It still surprises me how many people don't realize that strength isn't always a visual thing. Some of the strongest people I've ever met don't look all muscular and shredded. People with functional strength often look very different than people that do strength training for other reasons. One of the strongest guys I roll with is short, kind of skinny, and has a little pot belly because he drinks a lot. He reminds me of Dale from King of the Hill. But if he wraps up any sort of front headlock on you or body lock around the waist, he suddenly feels like an anaconda.

right after fight - "Khabib, what's next? Tony Ferguson?"

"Give me a few days to rest"

*24 hours later*

"I want a fight with GSP"

things that make you go:jbhmm:

He wants to fight GSP in Africa, for Africa.

I’ve rolled with Danis. Not in the gi. Just no-gi (shorts and a rash guard or shirt)

Low key he’s a cool dude. He acts like trash on social media but he’s one of the best black belts I’ve rolled with, was humble, and very helpful to everyone. He had really sick heel hooks, kneebars, and front headlock based chokes (guillotines, darces, anacondas...). His back takes were really clean too.

That being said Conor would get squashed like a bug. I have no interest in seeing that rematch. Conor would need to fight at least a couple fights and show some growth in his skill set first.

I detest trash talk even if it’s for hype. I can distinguish the real from the fake which makes it even more annoying. I prefer seeing fighters without the WWE promo. I know it’s all about the money in the end.

I’m sure Danis is that nikka on that mat and I’m sure he’s very likeable in person. I just can’t bang with his social media antics where as you said he’s very humble and willing to teach. It’s the same issue I have with Covington and his MAGA antics.

Some audiences need a storyline. I’m just here for the martial arts. :yeshrug:

I’m the same way man. Yeah Marcelo Garcia (the jiu-Jitsu/submission grappling GOAT) ended up booting Danis from his academy, largely due to the social media bullshyt.

:manny: It’s all ground karate/struggle snuggles with different rules.

Honestly Khabib does a lot of stuff that’s a little bit atypical from both bjj as well as sambo. At this point he’s basically a hybrid grappler and honestly the way he controls on the ground is way more like folkstyle wrestling blended with bjj than it is sambo.

I love sambo. I’ve done sambo, judo, and bjj. Bjj became my biggest love bit it was my last love. I enjoyed sambo way more earlier on. But in mixed grappling arts rule sets like the biannual ADCC (which happens later this month actually) bjj athletes tend to do the best.

For example sambo used to be known for meg locks but the bjj nerds took over a few years ago and took leg locks to a higher level than ever seen.

All grappling is dope as hell though. I still love sambo.
