Not to mention that it was used by slavers to justify slavery.
I watched that movie Silence the other day and even though the movie is supposed to show the awful shyt the Japanese did to Christian missionaries during the 17th century, after I read more about the Portuguese attempts to bring Christianity to Japan before it was banned and they were prosecuted, I have to respect how the Japanese peeped game and unfortunately a lot of folks in African countries did not.
The Japanese didn't allow Christians to take hold because they viewed it as a way for European countries to try and colonize Asia. They already were in the Phillipines and parts of China at this point. The Shogun saw that folks would be more beholden to western Christian leaders like the Pope or christian societies instead of the Shogun and Japan. Other European countries even confirmed that Portugal had colonial intentions before kicking them out. Religion went hand in hand with enslavement and instituting another system of control outside of the leaders in your own country. Once you get the populace to be more faithful to your religion instead of their own country and leaders, they will welcome you carrying a gun in the name of Jesus to come and throw out their apostate leaders. The Bible always came before the gun.
Now look at us, we still have tons of folks in our community beholden to some religion from Europe.
