Yeah he'll be in Fast and Furious 9. But that looks like it will be out in 2020. Looks like Universal wants to get the Hobbs movie out first to set up a nice franchise and give it time to grow.

It works for them, they get a spin off out with a popular character and can wait for the director they want for Fast 9.

It also deals with another issue a lot of people were complaining that the main films were getting too superhero like. This gives them a chance to make each film distinctive. Hobbs can have all the crazy superhero madness and the mainline films can wind the more extravagant stuff back.
