If you didn't pay to go see "Red Tails" you're part of the 'problem'...
I said this in another Tyler Perry thread, and I'll say it again.
He has made positive films; whether it's "Daddy's Little Girls"; "Family That Preys", or "Good Deeds". Those films got little to no support. So for all the TP critics, go out and support the few positive black movies that come out. Whether you go to black film festivals in your area; or go out and see movies like "Great Debators" or "Akelah and the Bee" when it comes out. Until we're actually supporting our own legit films, we will continue to see the same old nonsense in Hollywood.
I'll never understand the praise this man gets.
It's like he has a master list of black stereotypes and checks each one off as he writes his shytty movies.
The Wood, Soul Food, The Best Man. What happened to black movies like THAT?
ALL of TP films garner support, his popularity has grown since the release of his earlier films, so some have grossed more than others. There isn't a film that he has made where the budget is recouped, and there is a surplus. Check out the box office returns. His films cost next to nothing to make. I actually liked "Daddy's little girls". One of two or three films he has made where he has atleast ONE decent black male figure. But if you think ANY of his films have had "little to no support", look at the figures and then box office returns.
What good would that do when there still will be more than enough people watching his shytty movies for it to affect him. You're right, those films did turn a profit.
With that said, instead of us just shytting on Perry, don't see the films you find offensive and support the legit black films that come out.
It goes deeper than that. The politics of Hollywood are such that black movies ARENT going to be made anymore unless it's a Tyler Perry black movie.

white people make films like Inception, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, Mr. Nobody, Being John Malkovich , Blade Runner, I heart Huckabee, Empire Strikes Back, American Beauty, The Truman Show, Terminator, Jurassic Park, Matrix, Synecdoche New York, 2001: A Space Odyssey , Momento etc...
Black folks have Tyler Perry in a dress, some romantic comedies and hood flix
After all the talk of TP dissing black men and selling stereotypes every movie, I decided to check out one of his movies tonight and see if this is really true. So I watched Madea's Big Happy Family. The men in the movie were actually the good guys and the chicks came off bad. There were alot of good messages in the flick such as teaching kids not to be disrespectful and how to respect their elders. Yeah there were some hood cliche's in it too like Teyanna Taylors over the top character but for the most part the movie was filld with really good messages. The Madea character was straight up snick dissing all the super religious people too which I liked. Maybe most of the coli hasn't seen this flick because the shyt ya'll complain about wasn't evident in this movie.
A fat gay man represents black film

Anyone who says black men are at extinction levels is automatically written off. Didn't read past that.
