You would think he could sponsor a young director/writer who has an idea. "Tyler Perry Presents" is enough alone to recoup a few million invested. Take a risk, a new idea. Red Tails was great in direction, but that writing and acting was some of the worse I've ever seen. We need to get away from the lustful, violent, ignorant, c00n, sexually charged roles.

if you could combine perrys business sense with spike lees directing abilities you would have the goat

Spike has fallen so far off of the map, but I think this OLDBOY project will give him new life. I loved Inside Man, they killed the sequel, but Spike needs to have a fresh idea

He makes trash movies that reinforce stereotypes, but Hollywood won't free light a black film unless it caters to a certain audience. We do that to ourselves. Too many of our people love that kind of garbage and that's the problem. It's a numbers game, if he makes a film for 15 million, and it grosses 70 million at the box office with no signs of slowing down, he is a cash cow. He caters to a certain crowd, predominantly, black women. That nicca not going anywhere.

who are u to tell people what they should/shouldnt watch. what they should enjoy as Entertainment. who the hell are u.

and no im not mad, just wanna know why u caring what others want to watch

Nicca have you bothered to ADDRESS everyone else in here who shares the SAME opinion, or did you just click on the last page and peeped my lines? I am not the only one who thinks that he reinforces stereotypes, it's not about who watches it. Who cares? Oh, and by the way...:umad:

Can't their be a "black" Inception type movie? or a "black" Forrest Gump? Somebody has to step out of the box and make something like that

how bout "our own" James Bond?

I wish we could see more movies with a majority black cast, that wasn't about anything related to black history, current black issues, historical black figures or just straight-up black drama & relationships

Basically, I want the movie version of a Family Matters episode, i.e. the majority of the cast is black, however the plot has almost nothing to do with race, and neither does the dialogue. Also, there are few stereotypical black characters in it (if anything, there should be some non-stereotypical characters like Urkel and Waldo)

Doesn't necessarily have to be some sci-fi shyt, but some out-of-the-box action/comedy, at least......even though such movies would most likely be dismissed by black audiences (either because of 'c00ning' allegations just because the black characters aren't "acting black", or simply because the movie isn't some shyt they can relate to personally as a black person), I'm sure if done right, the bigger white audience would love it

Again, look at Family Matters (even though it's a sitcom); white people ate that up even though most of the cast was black and the star was a genius black kid with an annoying voice; not exactly a black stereotype. They liked it because the characters were funny and they like seeing Urkel's wacky inventions, or seeing him destroy some shyt

I think white people would accept a movie like that the same way as long as it was actually good/funny. James Bond or Forrest Gump with a majority black cast could actually work if done correctly. Hell, I'd like to see something like E.T. or Harry Potter with mostly black kids, too

:lawd: that's exactly my point are we capable of making those kinds of films? I believe we are more than. Making a film where there is no mention of race, etc? That would be so dope, but America couldn't help but give it that "black first" label.

There's a couple of these on Netflix and they suck :snoop:

Edit: now that I think about it, Haunted House was kinda like that and it sucked too :snoop:

I disagree. I think that's a misconception that allot of Hollywood execs make. But the movies that do have black actors in those prominent rolls still do pretty well. What we need to do is stop going to see the batmans, ironmans, Prometheus, etc if black people are underrepresented in them.

I don't think Tyler perry movies are good at all. But when I hear people dising his movies while applauding movies that have absolutely no black presence at all, I have to speak up about it. Tyler perry is not the cause of black people's problems in Hollywood.

I don't think it's a misconception. people like to see people they relate to, hence why you suggest blacks not supporting movies that don't have many blacks in prominent roles. Hollywood isn't about taking risks, hence why we get a lot of recycled, remade, formulaic type shyt again and again.

The idea of blacks not supporting movies that don't have us in it is fair. Although I don't know if many will be that dedicated to the point of depriving themselves of entertainment. Keep in mind, poor people watch a lot of movies because it's cheap entertainment.

I agree, it's quite a conundrum. But a lot of movies have done well with black lead characters. I just don't think we should try to seperate ourselves, we should try to get and support black people in any/all movies. We tend to criticize our stuff the hardest, like we had people protesting django :snoop: but really 90% of the movies in theaters aren't that good. We should go out and support our stuff cause its ours. Like I posted the trailer for the Peeples movie. Everybody in this thread complaining needs to go see that movie and buy the DVD. It's black people, it doesn't look too stereotypical, and it looks funny. But I bet a bunch of y'all will walk by that movie and go see whatever "summer blockbuster" is out at the time.

I know that. Tyler Perry is part of that machine. That's why I always say that he has the resources necessary to change black image in the eyes of the world.

I said this in another Tyler Perry thread, and I'll say it again.
He has made positive films; whether it's "Daddy's Little Girls"; "Family That Preys", or "Good Deeds". Those films got little to no support. So for all the TP critics, go out and support the few positive black movies that come out. Whether you go to black film festivals in your area; or go out and see movies like "Great Debators" or "Akelah and the Bee" when it comes out. Until we're actually supporting our own legit films, we will continue to see the same old nonsense in Hollywood.

author missed me when he said young black men are becoming an "endangered species." shut the fukk up. as long as black people have that defeatist attitude, we will never succeed. SOME black men might be endangered because of the life they choose to live, but most young black men are not endangered.

He might be the most powerful black man in hollywood, but his movies isn't no where close on the level F. GARY GRAY AND ANTOINE FUQUA MAKES..

they directed black films but they was able to direct movies like law abiding citizen and olympus has fallen movies that not only blacks but everybody..

tyler perry Movies and tv shows are 85% foucs on black women even tho he do have black men in them, his main target is only black women

I'm started to see it in chris rock stand-up shyt also.

atleast shanene wasnt tryna preach the bible n shyt tho

It's the God stuff that he injects into it all that bothers me the most. I know a lot of black folk are religious but come on, sometimes making it a major plot point is bothersome.

This is largely what I think it is, if people just keep it 100.

Black folk ain't tryin' to be the ones to say out loud "I ain't tryin' to hear about no Jesus while i'm here at this movie with this chick i'm tryina smash later on". LOL
