It was the system that gave the checkmark value in the first place… that only people with a certain status could get a blue check. If you remove the system you remove the value.

At this point what does having a blue check mean? Nothing… because most celebrities and reliable sources don’t even have them. And now, any clown with $8 a month can get one. If anything, the idea would have made more sense if he charged an amount that was less affordable for the average joe. People pay $8 a day on Starbucks, lol.

If he charged $100-$200 a month, maybe you still leave some exclusivity to it. But even then, you’re taking a gamble that’s really not worth it.

He clearly doesn’t understand people and how they work… socially

It means you can edit tweets and post long video (if that’s your thing), amongst other things. Why can’t people accept that? Why does it have to be deeper than that?

Is that more valuable to the platform than its previous use? Also, couldn’t they have done the same thing without touching the blue checks?

It’s not about accepting anything. It’s a conversation about whether makes sense. Does it improve the product?

It’s improved my experience. I think Twitter is better than it’s been in about 5+ years. Way more active. At least that’s how it feels on my TL (I follow 20k people tho) Will never be 2010-2012 twitter though.

Twitter was made off of the backs of black culture and celebrity. Regular people became famous and verified because of the content they gave twitter

Now you have to pay to be verified. A lame with no friends and 5 followers can pay for a blue check. What's the point? There is no value in it anymore. It symbolizes nothing more than a Hulu subscription. Elon really destroyed the app. It's bad enough he's using it to shyt on "libs" and "wokeness" but this is literally sabotaging what was once the best social media app on the internet

People were paying stacks for Blue Checks. I know someone personally who got a blue check just because they were with someone important and ran into the right person at the right time
