Face Hoegan and Flair looking a combined 200 years old in a :flabbynsick: tag team win over heel Sting and Luger with interference from DDP to close Nitro in October 99.

At least they got Piper’s sorry ass off TV by now.

Props to Psychosis and Disco Inferno for working a match on every single Nitro every.

Why Rodman though? They had enough wrestlers to give him a better feud than that. Why not use him in an intense feud to put over one of the younger stars they were starting to try and push in 99?

Maybe they bought in Rodman just for celebrity headlines is all I can think of.

Remember this was the beginning of the end for WCW in '99. I think this was the same year Bischoff got fired and Vince Russo was hired and started destroying the company w/bs ideas.

Yeah the Rodman angle took place while Bischoff was still there though.

Lex Luger Narcissist gimmick gets revamped as The Total Package in late 99. :dead:

Sting as a heel was starting to get kinda interesting. He didn’t have much time with it but he was starting to come into his own before Russo rebooted everything.

Russo did have a spark when he started in WCW. He completely lost me altogether with the David Arquette shyt though.

You immediately know Russo’s in charge when he starts booking violent rapey fantasy matches. :francis:

It really didn't fall off until late '98 when they started building to Starrcade.
It was still watchable, but the fall started after Starrcade 97 with the botched match ending and no real payoff.

Mishandling Bret Hart’s debut slightly prior to that was a huge red flag.

There should’ve been some kind of soft reboot or realignment after Starrcade 97.

WCW is clearly rudderless immediately after Starrcade 1997 and never recovered any kind of focus after that. There's still plenty of good-great matches and angles in 1998 and into the spring of 1999, but there is just no focus in elevating people, or an overall company wide direction like you saw in 1995-1997. Goldberg was obviously a happy accident and they had no plans for him, as evidenced by doing absolutely nothing as champion while all the focus of the shows were still on Hogan like he never dropped the title to begin with.

99 Kevin Trash is one of the worst all around performances by a combo wrestler/booker ever. He was out of shape booking :trash:wrestling like :trash: and walking to the ring slow as fukk whenever he wanted freestyling promos about nothing.

Russo actually made it interesting again for a minute when he took over in October. That didn’t last long though.
