Watched about half the Crockett Cup last night and have a few thoughts:

The lack of commentary is interesting, but what makes it more interesting is you can hear individual cat calls
I feel like I'm pretty jacked these days, but to be the muscle bound meat heads that young Hawk and Rick Steiner were :banderas:

Pretty sure Shaska Pez says "I hate you fukking fans" right over the house mic :mjlol:

Young Bruce Prichard looks like what I imagine Matt Riddle looked like at 13

:mjlol: at how xenophobic Americans were in the 80s where white guys from NEW ZEALAND were heels for saluting their flag. NEW ZEALAND :russ:

To this day I'm amazed that the RNRs were heart throbs. Dude looked like they'd spend all their time in liquor store parking lots making passes at high school girls.

EDIT: Also lmao at how many matches have fukk finishes or double dqs in this damn thing.

RNR, Midnights, Fantastics, Sheepherders were all eliminated due to DQs, the finals were actually the semi finals but two of the teams had been eliminated either by DQ or draw. There's also a forfeit and 3 minute match in there.

They have a full episode of Velocity up in Hidden Gems :banderas:

Regal vs Scottie 2 Hottie

A freshly returned Jamie Noble vs Tomasso Ciampa (Whitney) with a headful of hair where Josh Matthews kept hyping up Noble's "extensive" NJPW run which was two tours of tag matches and 2-3 singles matches over a year and a half and ignoring his ROH run even though they definitely brought up ROH and American indies during this time period on Velocity and Heat.

London/Kendrick vs Arch Kindcaid/Scotty Charisma which got me thinking about how Paul London's career could have gone had he waited a few years before he signed with WWE. Could he have had a Bryan/Punk type run had he signed in 2008-2010 after years of establishing himself instead of signing as soon as he got buzz before he really accomplished much on the indies or would he have physically wrecked himself and not had the personality to stick with it anyway? When he signed his ceiling was definitely very low, but the landscape and outlook changed so much just a few years later that I wonder if he could have been one of the defining guys of his generation had he waited a little bit to sign.

A jacked to the t*ts post JBL's Cabinet Doug Basham vs a fat beardless kid looking Todd Hanson of War Machine/War Raiders/Viking Experience/Viking Raiders. I'm willing to bet absolutely no one remembers this Doug Basham solo run, which seems like it was exclusive to Velocity for like 2 months then both Bashams were kept off TV for 6 months and ended up being Paul Heyman's security guards on ECW for a bit before again being off TV for a big chunk of months and then being victims to 'deavors season when that was still a thing.

Orlando Jordan vs Funaki :mjlol:

I'd really like to see a Network doc on that OVW class that had so much hype online for years and ended up being nothing but terrible gimmicks and flops when they got called up (Bashams, Rico, Rob Conway, Nick Dinsmore)

There's a clip of Killer Khan absolutely murdering someone with a backdrop in the intro for All Star Wrestling in late 1981. I wonder who it was and what show it's from because I'd like to see it in real time. Straight up Dr. Death style dangerous backdrop drivaaaaaah :picard:

This was also Jim Niedhart's debut and it was overshadowed by Bret

:mjcry:

He never could shine on his own he always had to have Bret there

Before Bret blew up The Anvil was my favorite in the Hart Foundation

You know, I've seen some Anvil stuff from territories where he wasn't paired with Bret (or any Hart) and he was pretty fun. He had a pretty lol bromance with Rick Rude in Memphis.

I thought about stopping where I am now and go back and start there

97 WCW was the glory days of nWo and Sting starting to really come into the Crow gimmick

98 was the beginning of the split where the Wolfpack would be introduced and the beginning of Thunder so they were bringing in a lot of Japan talent and signing people like Marty Jannetty and Jim Neidhart
