So like...Taz was hurt his entire post neck break run right? He definitely had a busted shoulder by the time Barely Legal happened, and he spends the rest of the year getting noticeably flabbier and softer. Much of 1998 sees him doing lots of tv angles instead of matches sometimes even at ppvs, and often wearing street clothes.

The difference in his musculature and movements in 1995-1996 and then the middle of 1997 on is pretty significant.

I always hated how the redneck crowds at wcw events would chant USA during luchadore matches or like when it was benoit vs. Jushin liger

The whole narrative that WCW's cruiserweight division was super hot and over is a bit of a myth. 90% of these matches are getting crickets on Nitro.

Weirdly enough Ultimo Dragon gets some crazy babyface pops from the WCW hick crowds...but i dunno i had this memory of the crowds going apeshyt for this stuff but a lot of it falls flat.

Funniest guy is Super Calo's bum ass killing himself every week with botches

WCW Bash at the Bach 2000 is abysmal

Im so mad I wasted 2 hrs 48 min of my life on this

Its a shame they made Booker T champ on such a shytty show

Ehh, i didn't think it was THAT bad. There was definetely some matches that were built up well ending in nonsense though.

Yeah Super Calo is an absolute botch machine and it's always hilarious. And also yeah the B tier cruiserweights rarely got a reaction unless it was a trios match with constant dives and high spots. I mean...Alex Wright vs Super Calo sure isn't Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio, ya know?

Even Rey was getting some subdued reactions in 96 though. It's not like Rey exploded on the scene and crowds were going crazy for him every week. Some weeks he got a good reaction, but other weeks there'd be no heat at in his matches.

WCW crowds in general were just weird as fukk in terms of what did and didn't get over. Not to mention the trash throwing in the ring.

Also, while i'm on 97 WCW...the introduction of Raven is weird. He's doing these awkward interviews with Gene at ringside looking like he's wacked out of his mind on heroin, while Stevie Richards is trying to be his agent for some reason. Most of these hicks in the arena have no idea who the fukk these people are, and there was no hype or anything to introduce them.

Omg the swerve for the main event of Living Dangerously 1998 :russ::russ::russ::russ::russ::russ::russ:

So Sunny starts working ECW, and within a few weeks she turns on Skip. There's a dream tag team partner match for the PPV where Lance Storm and Chris Candido will each get to pick a dream partner. Sunny knows who Lance's partner will be, but randomly won't tell Chris and slaps him. The PPV comes and Sunny reveals herself to be Lance's partner, Joey screams about how genius it is because Chris won't hit Sunny, and won't let Shane hit her either. A few minutes into the match, Lance is holding Chris so Sunny can hit him with a cookie sheet. However, the timing gets so fukked up that Chris and Lance are no longer even touching each other, they're just standing around, and Sunny keeps pantomiming that she's going to hit Chris, only to SWERVE THE WORLD and hit Lance. Except she missed him. And then fell in the hole left from the Bam Bam/Taz match. :mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

Lance then says he's going to give Chris head, which brings Al Snow out, who pins Shane in like 90 seconds. :mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

It's one of the most amazingly botched sequences I might have ever seen. Would love for there to be a cam on Paul E. flipping his shyt during things like that. I think contemporary feelings from Meltzer and his readers had the ECW PPVs rated way higher than the WCW/WWF PPVs, but the first 4 shyt the bed either for the whole show (like Hardcore Heaven 1997) or in key matches/angles. These Sabu/Sandman matches are absolute trainwrecks :russ:. Every PPV match with Shane Douglas has been dreadful. Taz gets exposed hard when in matches that go more than 5 minutes.

Actually Rey debuted in 96 at 21 and practically every week going forward, since he was a LIGHTS OUT ring performer, he got more over and over by the week.

The “Chronicle” episode with Dean Ambrose was really well made. One of the best ones they made. It blurred the lines of between the character and the real man, and Dean was the perfect character to build around.

Very intriguing watch.

watching starrcade 1996. it has been a fun show :ehh: a match that on paper you'd think wouldn't be worth it, The Outsiders vs the Faces of fear was hella physical and hella fun.
