I was looking forward to this one, since TSC seems to have a :ld: opinion towards him.

I'm going overall 9, I was a big mark for him for a long time though he's not one of my GOATs. The TLC/Ladder matches were big parts of my childhood and his Rated R run was fun to watch as a teen. His last year was trash. On a separate note, I think his career largely benefitted from being there at the right place at the right time. I don't say that as a knock, but like the perfect era for Edge to debut in was the Attitude era. He was a tall dude with a certain presence, but he didn't have a lot to him at that point besides athleticism and a few cool things. Any other time, he'd get exposed the first time he has to work 10 or so minutes but in 1998-9, he could be in some 3-5 minute sprints, then he lucks into a tag team run AND THEN lucks into being around some of the all time greats in 2002-3 and by the time he's finally on his own properly in like 2004, 2005, he's developed enough to actually handle himself, and then his career skyrockets from there, largely from the Matt Hardy/Lita love triangle. I think he was capable in the ring, but without a gimmick his matches didn't always stand out. He wasn't like a top tier mic worker but he did have some good promos. I'm sure people will feel I overrated him but :manny:

Based on what? Edge was a draw. He helped sell tickets for PPVs and sold a lot of merchandise. On a business level they made a good move which is what matters more than anything. His career was a financial success for the company.
I always felt Christian was a far better in ring performer, had better charisma and much better mic skills. Can easily pull of being a face and a heel better than Edge, he just didn't get the same push Edge did. But Christian proved his worth with his run in TNA

He was on SD for a little more than a year, got injured, came back to Raw from 04-mid 08, and was back on SD from mid 08 til he retired in early 2011. What?

His time on top of SD killed it and made it a legitimate B show without pretenses that it still hasn't recovered from even with AJ Styles, John Cena, and Shinsuke Nakamura on the brand. From the time he went to SD in 2007 until he retired, the whole brand was put on hold for all of his injuries and dogshyt promos and never ending feuds that went absolutely nowhere and always ended with him somehow getting the title again out of the blue. With Edge on top, SD died off hard and its still felt today, a decade later.

 literally shocked at the Edge hate. i would have never thought he had people who didnt like him. i see some bias in here. That Orton thread gonna be LEGENDARY for the fukkery
tSc's never liked Edge for some reason.

Anyway, I'd give him an 8.5. Was one of my favorites since I started watching in '99 and the early days of the Rated R gimmick were fukkery at its finest.

Matt was the star....they just pushed Edge over him and Lita was more over by far. So him being a scumbag doesnt make him some all time great performer

Lol@giving this overpushed b*stard a "9"...yikes.
lmao Matt wasn't the star, dude sabotaged himself when Vince brought him back and he immediately cut a garbage ass promo, and then Edge destroyed him on the mic a week later.

Speaking of Orton, does anyone have any requests for other Ruthless Aggression Era wrestlers? I might do a Cena thread. It's going to be absolute chaos though. :mjlol:

Matt was the star.

Man if you don't.....

This was SUPPOSED to be Matt's chance to elevate himself but he dropped the ball with some garbage promo about hoping Edge got in a car accident and wanting to start a family. Edge was already way ahead of him on the card so the top guy in this feud was Edge.

The next week Edge lit his whiny ass up and proved why Matt wasn't ready for the spotlight.

Mid 8 for me. Wasn't a huge fan of his, but he overachieved like crazy, and was very entertaining throughout his career. He could talk, had a good moveset (other than his shytty running hug), great identifiable themes, and was general a standout dude. he was most definitely a benefit of the brand split, as he probably would not have held all those titles if not for that, but he made everything count once he got the chance. Was an excellent heel during the as the Rated R Superstar, and was maybe the first person to legitimize Cena. Besides a lot of his tag matches with the Hardyz and Dudleyz, my favorite match from him was the SD Ladder Match from 2002. Excellent match. Rey/Edge vs Angle/Benoit was a GOAT match as well. Him shytting on Billy Gunn was a GOAT segment too. Rated R Edge with Lita is basically what a heel Seth Rollins and some valet should be. Edge latter years were pretty trash after his injury. Went from an intriguing heel to a CAW rockstar template face. Edge is cool with me even though he wasn't one of my faves. His legendary status may be inflated, but it's not like he didn't have the skills once he was handed the ball.

:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol: @ Matt Hardy being a star at that time when he fukked his own self over during that "car crash" promo. Matt Hardy COULD have been a solo star had he not became a simp and left SD for Raw to be with Lita. Dude was a fukking loser on his own for like 8 years until the Big Money Matt stuff in ROH then Broken Matt on Impact.

His time on top of SD killed it and made it a legitimate B show without pretenses that it still hasn't recovered from even with AJ Styles, John Cena, and Shinsuke Nakamura on the brand. From 08-09, SD had Rey, Jeff Hardy, CM Punk, Shelton, MVP, Taker, Chris Jericho and John Morrsion, along with Edge. SD was lowkey good at that time. SD's shytty years were mid-04 to 2007. Agree about him have a ton of unnecessary reigns, but nothing else. The WWE in general is weak today.

8.

Mic work and personality were top notch. His mid 00's run as a heel was a thing of legend, he really had one of the most memorable runs as a heel in recent years, the sex show, the cash-in, the Hardy feud. One knack I'd give to him was out of 11 (:why:) WWE championship runs only two or three of them are notable. He was just given the belt after awhile and it became ridiculous, wasn't it an injury bug to other stars why he kept winning it? :jbhmm: Wrestling wise he was mid. He kinda reminds me of The Miz, great on the mic, overachieved with a trash moveset.

Oh and he had some great themes. His OG, the Rob Zombie theme and of course the all timer, Metalingus

Me trying to hit that high note as a teen

Bah..dont have him talk then. U know goddamn well he was in demand by WM 21. We've all seen the MITB match by now. He was the star..the one fans went wild for but they pushed Edge over him in dominant fashion. It would be like putting Corbin over Nakamura in squash fashion. A joke. A disgrace.

It was no chance. It was a usual McMahon chosen star put over someone the fans fukked with. Edge was struggling after his return from injury in case u forgot the embrassing scenes at Summerslam 04 in his hometown and at Taboo Tuesday 04. He was nothing. A nobody. A guy getting booed despite getting pushing like this big face...things had changed..Benjamin was going strong and Blandy was pushed too. So fans didn't buy him fitting in like he left...he didn't have the same connect like Christian did.

U people forgot much of a joke Edge was and what it took to put him over..i remember it week by terrible week. Everyone thought Benoit, Shelton, or Jericho was gonna win MITB..Edge wasn't on the radar because he had bombed so bad. Then fans flipped on Lita with all the slut chants and We want Matt during her promos with Trish in N.Y. and it was evident...Edge ain't shyt.

Yes to all of this. And this shyt was going on before that, too. Tried to push him hard in 2001 and all of 2002 by portraying him as better than guys like Angle/Rey/Eddie/Benoit, forcing him into the top of the card when no one was buying it, then he misses time and comes back and has NO heat or buzz until he's paired with Lita, who actually gets all of the heat.

:laff::laff::laff:@ "portraying him better than Eddie/Benoit/Rey/Eddie/Angle". That didn't happen. He simply had good feuds with each of them. Their mistake was trying to make him a lead face when he should have been heel all along. The WWE has been botching alignments for YEARS.
