With a scale of 1-10 how would you rate Mick Foley in these categories:

-Mic work/promos

-Personality/gimmicks

-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds)

-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores)

He was the fourth most important figure (behind Austin, Rock, and Vince) of WWE’s hottest era and his ring work/layouts had a significant impact on the WWE style long after. Great on the mic. Terrific seller. Excellent grasp on storytelling. Had legendary craziness everywhere he went, every company he hit (that wasn’t TNA). Almost everyone he worked with came out of programs with him better off — he helped make or save some of the most important names in wrestling history.

Only significant criticism is that he whored himself out so much that a lot of people don’t give him the respect/reverence he should get.

Only a select few will get 10s from me, so I went with a 9.

Foley is a 9. I don't have him as beloved as some of my other faves growing up, but he was another key cog in Attitude, was beloved, played a good part in WCW, ECW, and the WWF, was a trail blazer specifically in the WWF and ECW, and was distinctive in every way. Pretty much the only flaw he had was his physical appearance (to bookers), but that basically played a part in enhancing his legend cause he was able to put his body through so much. The Mankind character was ahead of it's time, and it was great seeing his transition from evil psycho heel Mankind to lovable hardcore legend. Even Commissioner Foley was entertaining. Dude also had multiple classic and defining matches. Revisiting KOTR 98 vs Taker is kind of brutal, but it's a historic match. His feud with Taker in general practically spanned 2 years and featured multiple layers. Boiling Room Brawl matches with Taker and Big Show were entertaining. His feud with HHH basically MADE HHH, specifically making people truly take him seriously as a heel. Did the same for Edge and Randy Orton in 2004. Even his feud with Val Venis was entertaining :laff::laff:. Didn't even mention the Rock and Sock Connection, nor his feud in general with The Rock in 1998. Mick Foley played an important role in quite a few guys' careers, Stone Cold as well. His match that ended in a DQ with HBK is my all time fave of his, even though it's not history making like other feuds, I just loved it cause that match was pretty much an anomaly in 1996. Mick Foley was one of those elite guys that could seamlessly go from serious to comedic (like Angle and Eddie), whether it was his Cane Dewey promo in ECW, Evolution promos in 2004, or This Is Your Life with The Rock and promos with Al Snow. He provided a lot entertaining segments and matches throughout multiple eras, I just choose to ignore his Impact stint and all these lame returns they have Mick Foley doing, shyt that's basically legacy damaging. They just keep whoring him out and it simply doesn't hit anymore.

:patrice: 9 or 10.

Been a fan of Foley since the WCW days. Just had a weird and unusual style that stood out from everyone else.

If you watched early 90's and said that Cactus Jack, would become one of the biggest stars of the next boom periods Everyone would of given :gucci:.

One of the greatest sellers of all-time
One of the greatest talkers of all-time
One of the greatest wrestling T shirts of all-time
Maybe the greatest spot junkie of all-time.

.

His feud with Vader in WCW. :picard:

The Taker anthology :wow:

The Funk/Foley match from Raw with Austin doing commentary :banderas:

His matches with :hhh: in the 97 and 00 feuds and are brutal and what got :hhh: over properly as a heel, both times.

Japan
bd09cc685bb01d089bc0a553c3c57ee5.gif

And then you have the matches when he was Dude Love vs Austin and the HBK match, which were wild brawls as well.

Both Rock and :hhh: won their first WWF titles pinning Foley.

Cactus Jack is my favourite incarnation of Mrs Foley Baby boy. Especially if you've seen the WCW and ECW work and then managing to be Cactus on the WWF stage and still not be watered down.

9. Just forget everything after his “retirement” match with Triple H because that Foley is a 6:heh:

Promos were intense, matches were perfect for the Attitude Era, and character was great during that time too.

And even before that, he had some great battles with Sting and Vader where he was viewed as an actual threat as an opponent.

An easy 10 for me. Mick is my all-time favorite wrestler and the reason I became a wrestling fan. His books Have A Nice Day and Foley Is Good helped me to learn more about the wrestling business and get introduced to a lot of the insider wrestling terms. I remember checking out Have A Nice Day from the library but I bought Foley Is Good which I still have.

He could play 3 personalities effectively, was a great worker who knew how to get his opponents over, had elite mic skills, and was just an overall likable guy. My favorite match would have to be his Royal Rumble match with Triple H in 2000. That Triple H feud in general was grade A face-heel work. The main reason Triple H progressed to the next level of stardom was because of his feud with Foley. Also no one can forget that his World Title win marked a momentum shift in the ratings war with WCW and was a catalyst for WWE's consistent dominance in the ratings. I also enjoyed The Undertaker feud and their Boiler Room Brawl was a great match. He was a selfless worker who took crazy risks and was an excellent storyteller in the ring. As an authority figure, he was amusingly corny and unapologetic about it. His segments with Edge and Christian were :mjlol:.
