CM Punk was seen as a joke for damn near 3 years. Beaten by holly out of the Blue and passed up by Lashley. Str8 Edge Society was alright..mostly for Serena but Mysterio punked him alot. His ROH ending program was good. After the pipe bomb theatrics, everyone here got on his bandwagon. It didn't really make big money but it was talked about until he got complacent in his 2012 face run. AJ Lee stole the show from him. Outworked directly by Bryan in 2012. Very good on the mic in making his whiny promos come off as a faux rebel. But mostly hypocritical in nature.

Bryan went by the best in the world for years. Wrestled everyone in ROH IN near classics. The Nigel stuff was exceptionally great. They had him ribbed as Miz being his coach..he got over anyway. The Nexus angle was hot. Took the heat for it. Came back in the US TITLE hunt. Found his character in 2011 and he carried Smackdown with Henry. AJ Lee blew up after he heeled on post mania squash. He got ultra over as heel...has great matches with everybody. Team Hell No. Went back on top by 2013.

Bryan is the better performer and better on his feet than Punk and his promos are heartfelt which got over just as big as Punk at his hottest.

I was more invested in Bryan overall. When he finally won at WM 30 :banderas:

Punk is a great talent tho. But for me, DB is my pick.

I could see arguments for both :obama:

Bryan, he had everybody chanting for him when he was supposed to be getting buried, the crowd naturally loved him

The gap for in ring performance is bigger than the gap for promo/character work imo. That's why I give Bryan the nod.

I mean, peak Punk is better overall but he very rarely got to that level and he could be fukking horrible waaay more than Bryan.

Punk only because he can be great as either heel or face.

Bryan like AJ can never commit to going all the way as a heel. Punk gives no fukks and has no limits.

His 16 Carat Gold Tournament in 08' begs to differ :ahh:

Things haven't Been the same since Bryan retired. Things got much better post Punk by the end of WM XXX. Bryan had the wrestling world ON FIRE 1999 style...Cena was kicked out 9f the top spot...Shield turned face..Cesaro seemed to be turning face but they did the Heyman swerve and fans marked out HARD for all of that. Lesnar broke the streak and the heat and shock had the industry going bananas. Evolution bombed but everything else was perfect. AJ Lee was on a island by herself as the best..then Paige popped up to a great reaction. 2014 Was going strong to they fukked it all up...and the culmination was the Bryan Injury and the political push of Roman at Rumble 2015.

Bryan started off at a lower level than Punk did (NXT game show with an 0-12 record) and then reached a higher height than Punk (main event WM30/ yes movement)
