Barack Obama proved on Thursday night that post-presidency, he’s still dining at the hippest establishments in town. The former president and went to Emilio’s Ballato last night with his daughter Malia, who’s in town
interning for the Weinstein Company.
The old-school Italian restaurant in Little Italy, at 55 East Houston St., is known for being a celebrity hotspot — with everyone from
Rihanna and Naomi Campbell to
Billy Joel and David Bowie having visited. It’s best known for the vibe, owner and chef Emilio Vitolo’s personality, and the rotating door of A-Listers, but the food has also been deemed solid. It serves Italian American classics like tagliatelle Bolognese and spaghetti and meatballs.
Owner Emilio Vitolo posted a group shot with Obama and his daughter, while a fellow diner posted a blurry picture of the two eating what looks like tiramisu, a signature of the restaurant.
The Obamas
had famously good taste in restaurants during their time in the White House. In the fall, Barack and Michelle
dined at Mexican trailblazer Cosme. The president has also stopped at
Upland,
Estela,
The Nomad,
ABC Kitchen,
Carbone, and
Blue Hill over the years.
Meanwhile, the younger Obama has been living it up during her internship in NYC. Malia has been spotted at nightclub Up&Down, the Black Lodge, and Happy Ending.
Sources tell Page Six that the 18-year-old — flanked by tons of security — was only drinking Red Bull.
Update: Apparently Obama’s on a dining rampage while in New York. For lunch on Friday, he was spotted looking super chill at Danny Meyer’s Flatiron fine dining restaurant Gramercy Tavern. He was reportedly in the private dining room.
