I do think Hays was putting on when he came back from the bathroom. Roland was reading Amelia's book where the "Children should laugh" quote would probably tip him off, Hays notices that and starts up the act. He also did the same thing with the interviewer when they asked him about the cop being killed. He seems to use it when he can't be sure if someone is trustworthy with some info while also suffering from the disease.

yup its def an act. Don't know why he would do it though. And why did he suddenly suspect Roland just cause he looked at the book? They have to work together and share info anyways.

I watched the preview for EP7 that aired after the show but didn't know they had this one with Nick talking about EP6. Pretty cool.

Really curious to know when Amelia actually died. Don't see any older photos of her. They make it sound like it was recent re: cancer, but that could be to not remind Wayne of something. Maybe closer to 1990.
