I have to give credit to that actress though, she really worked with the material she was given.

I though the dinner scene...if we're talking about Hays and Amelia...was incredibly telling. Amelia comes off like Hannibal Lector....very intelligent, manipulative, and aggressive. She plays coy, but I swear she's casing him. That was a great scene. Awkward, but great.

Something is up with the chicken plant
One eyed Sam works there and so did the mother.
The mother also said, "Children should laugh"
Which was written on the note the kidnappers dropped off. Maybe that was a slogan or something used in a campaign or marketing for the plant.
I think the chicken plant holds the key. Maybe the woman who makes the doll used to work there as well or has a relative that does and gave them to the owner of the plant.
I think she lied on ole Sam and this is just a distraction to use him as a suspect. But Sam could be the black man with the scar, maybe he was wearing an eyepatch and from a distance it resembled a scar..
