Fyi the director that directed the first two episodes of this season left right after.

So this season may or may not take a dip in quality. Let's hope for the best, but some of us here know Pizzaman has been known to be a over-controlling prick.

First two episodes were fire. I'm an enormous season 1 stan so I have high expectations.

This one has enough new elements (innocence appeal/conviction overturned, wife/husband detective relationship, triple timeline, diminishing memory) to keep the format fresh.

Whoever predicted that this season would be on some West Memphis 3 shyt was dead on, you call tell that was a clear inspiration

Leng (plateau) - Wikipedia

Lovecraft first mentioned and described aspects of Leng in Celephaïs (1920) in which it is described how Kuranes "once barely escap[ed] from the high-priest not to be described, which wears a yellow silken mask over its face and dwells alone in a prehistoric stone monastery on the cold desert plateau of Leng".

High Priest Not to Be Described - Wikipedia

The High Priest Not to Be Described is the sole occupant of a remote and ancient monastery on the Plateau of Leng in the Dreamlands. It serves the Outer Gods. It's possible that it may be the King in Yellow, Hastur.
Very subtle, extremely vague season 1 reference. :ohhh:

And I researched....that book on the table doesn't exist. Meaning they created it specifically for the show, which seems strange to do unless it holds some significance.

suspect this will become overrated since season 2 was so bad

first episodes were good, that’s about it. plenty of shots of Ali looking out of the passenger side window of the car thinking in classic TD fashion.

the fact that Jeremy Saulnier left after these 2 doesn’t bode well though :francis:

Mahershala Ali is too damn good in this. You watch him at his own age for most of the episodes but every time they cut to him as an old man you believe he's an old man immediately.:wow:

Also not as surprised about Dorff as most people seem to be, dude is one of them Mickey Rourke/Eric Roberts style actors who don't fukk with all that Hollywood drama so he does a lot of low-budget joints, but the man can act. I wonder when his 1990's version shows up.

I'm not going too much into speculation but the not-so subtle background song during Hays' and Amelia's convo at the bar implies a lot.
